Job Overview:
We are seeking a qualified and passionate Social Studies Teacher to join a reputable school in Al Ain UAE for a maternity cover position. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching Social Studies to students in Grade 6 to Grade 9 ensuring that students receive high-quality engaging and culturally relevant lessons. This is a temporary role with the possibility of extension based on the school's needs.
Qualifications and Experience:
Education:
Bachelor's degree in Social StudiesEducation or a related field.
A recognized teaching qualification (e.g. PGCE QTS or equivalent) is preferred.
ADEK Approval letter is preferred but not mandatory.
Experience:
Minimum of 2-3 years of teaching experience in Social Studies at the middle school level (Grades 6-9).
Previous experience in UAE or GCC region is highly desirable but not essential.
Experience in short-term teaching contracts or maternity covers is a plus.
Skills:
Strong knowledge of Social Studies topics including History, Geography, and Civics.
Excellent classroom management and organizational skills.
Proficient in using technology and digital tools for teaching and learning.
Ability to create engaging student-centered lessons that promote critical thinking and discussion.
Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues.
Key Responsibilities:
Lesson Planning and Delivery:
Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging Social Studies lessons for Grade 6 to Grade 9 students.
Teach various aspects of Social Studies including Geography, History, and Civics with an emphasis on global, regional, and UAE-specific topics.
Incorporate diverse teaching methods including discussions, multimedia, project-based learning, and field trips (if applicable) to promote active learning and critical thinking.
Use differentiated instruction to address the learning needs of students with varying abilities.
Assessment and Feedback:
Assess student progress through quizzes, assignments, group projects, presentations, and exams.
Provide timely, constructive feedback to students on their work highlighting strengths and areas for improvement.
Maintain detailed records of student progress and communicate with parents during parent-teacher conferences.
Classroom Management:
Establish and maintain a positive, inclusive, and respectful classroom environment conducive to learning.
Manage classroom behavior according to the school's policies ensuring a productive and safe space for all students.
Foster student engagement by promoting open discussion, encouraging questions, and creating a classroom atmosphere where students feel comfortable expressing their ideas.
Curriculum Support:
Follow the school's Social Studies curriculum while ensuring that lessons are culturally relevant and reflective of global and UAE-specific contexts.
Modify and adapt lesson plans to meet the needs of all students including those who may require additional support.
Integrate current events and real-world examples into lessons to enhance student learning and understanding of Social Studies.
Collaboration:
Work closely with colleagues in the Social Studies department to ensure consistent curriculum delivery and share resources.
Participate in staff meetings, professional development sessions, and school-wide activities.
Collaborate with other teachers to ensure a holistic approach to student learning across subjects.
