Job description

We are looking for a skilled Fire Fighting and Fire Alarm Technician with a minimum of 2 years of experience in the installation, maintenance, and repair of fire safety systems. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience working with fire suppression systems, fire alarms, and related safety equipment in both commercial and residential settings. The technician will ensure compliance with fire safety codes, regulations, and standards to provide clients with safe, functional fire safety systems.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Installation of Fire Fighting Systems
    1. Install, test, and commission fire fighting systems, including sprinklers, fire extinguishers, and other suppression systems, according to project specifications.
    2. Work with fire suppression systems like water-based, foam, and CO2 systems, ensuring correct placement of sprinklers, hoses, and valves.
    3. Install and set up piping, controls, and water tanks for firefighting systems in accordance with building plans and safety standards.
  2. Installation of Fire Alarm Systems
    1. Install and wire fire alarm systems, including smoke detectors, heat detectors, manual call points, and fire alarm panels.
    2. Test and calibrate fire alarm systems to ensure they are functioning correctly, including checking signal transmission, sirens, and notification devices.
    3. Perform system programming and configuration to ensure fire alarms are set up for optimal performance.
  3. Maintenance and Repairs
    1. Conduct regular maintenance and inspections of installed fire fighting and fire alarm systems to ensure they meet legal requirements and function optimally.
    2. Troubleshoot issues with fire alarm systems, including false alarms, malfunctioning sensors, and wiring issues.
    3. Replace faulty components, such as smoke detectors, sensors, or sprinkler heads, and ensure fire suppression systems are in good working order.
  4. Compliance and Safety
    1. Ensure all installations, repairs, and maintenance work comply with local fire safety codes, building regulations, and industry standards.
    2. Maintain accurate records of inspections, maintenance work, and system testing for compliance and regulatory purposes.
    3. Work with local authorities or insurance inspectors to ensure fire protection systems meet the required safety standards.
  5. Emergency Response and Troubleshooting
    1. Respond to emergency service calls to repair or troubleshoot fire alarms or fire fighting systems.
    2. Perform repairs and replacements on faulty systems to ensure fire safety equipment is operational.
    3. Assist in identifying fire hazards and recommend upgrades or improvements to improve safety measures in buildings.
  6. Customer Service and Documentation
    1. Communicate clearly with customers to explain fire safety systems, the work completed, and any necessary repairs or upgrades.
    2. Provide cost estimates and service reports to clients, and recommend system upgrades to meet current safety codes.
    3. Document all work performed, including installations, repairs, and inspections, and maintain service records for clients.

Skills and Qualifications

  1. Technical Skills:
  2. Minimum 2 years of experience working with fire fighting systems (sprinklers, extinguishers, suppression systems) and fire alarm systems (detectors, alarms, panels).
  3. Experience with various types of fire suppression systems, including water-based, dry chemical, CO2, and foam systems.
  4. Familiarity with programming, wiring, and troubleshooting fire alarm panels and other detection equipment.
  5. Strong understanding of fire safety standards, codes, and local regulations.
