Technical Manager - Survey and Navigation
The Technical Manager - Survey & Navigation is responsible for leading and continually improving the seismic navigation and positioning activities of the PXGEO to support the delivery of best-in-class crew and fleet performance. The role is also expected to perform the following responsibilities:
Purpose:- Manage and organize technical support related to Navigation and Positioning provided to all stakeholders.
- Planning of equipment upgrades and spares levels to keep operations up and running according to contractual requirements.
- Analyses contractual requirements, provides technical proposals (methods and resources for navigation and positioning) to be used on future projects.
- Ensures that contracts specifications are met for all deliverables related to his own department.
- Coordinates field support engineers interventions when involved in rigging, technical stops, upgrades and onsite visits.
- Travel to supplier/client/PXGEO offices for meetings, and offshore technical audits or shipyards during rigging phases.
- Monitor navigation and positioning related downtime across the fleet and implement programs to reduce this as far as practical.
- Monitor and stay abreast of any emerging technologies to improve technical packages that are provided.
- Works closely with the PXGEO's R&D and engineering teams on developing innovative products and services for both the near and long term, at times as a project owner, stakeholder and contributor.
- Manage key suppliers of navigation and positioning services.
- EHSQ:
- Is responsible for delivering a Quality service to all internal and external customers.
- Ensures compliance of the PXGEO Management System within their own team.
- Supervises and coordinates the work of his or her team, checks results and ensures adherence to Procedures and Standards. Ensures team members stay current with respect to knowledge, and that experience is shared. Analyses training needs and ensures that his or her team possesses the required competences to provide the best technical support.
- Sets objectives for his or her direct employees and manages their work. Carries out annual assessment reviews and puts forward proposals for career development.
- Monitors technical and operational field performance relevant to the department and provides remedial action to minimize or eliminate technical downtime, by providing technical support/solutions to operations under own team's support.
- Acts as the main technical focal point for the Operations Department concerning issues related to own department on-board supported crews.
- Prepares input to and monitors technical CAPEX and OPEX budgets inside the department's responsibility area in order to optimize return on capital investments and optimized use of consumables for supported operations.
- Fulfill their assigned responsibilities as part of the Emergency Response team in line with the Emergency Response Plan and duty list as required.
Engagement:- Supervise office-based navigation support staff, field-based engineers when required and provide coaching and mentoring to field-based navigation staff.
- Frequent and close coordination with all onshore support departments.
- Communicate with clients on navigation and positioning issues in support of sales and operations.
- Liaison with vendors and third-party service providers.
- Represent the PXGEO's current and future products in the wider geophysical and hydrographic community.
Requirements:- Detailed knowledge of, and extensive experience with, marine seismic survey methods and technologies relating to towing and handling and sources.
- At least degree level in a suitable surveying, or related discipline or equivalent experience.
- Good working knowledge of Navigation and positioning systems (Integrated Navigation Systems, DGPS, Acoustic positioning, Inertial Navigation Systems, Hydrography equipment, Motion sensors, etc.).
- Good knowledge of LINUX environment, networking, Radio modems, and IT.
- As frequent traveler conducting vessel visits: BOSIET or FOET certification is required.
- Commitment to Company's environmental agenda.
- Can be assigned as Company Fire Warden and First Aider.
Additional Responsibilities:All field-based personnel as well as many office-based personnel are required to travel extensively; this requires a high level of fitness, flexibility and strength as well as the maintenance of documentation to facilitate this travel. The Company will assist employees in maintaining the various documentation and certification (including passports, visas, offshore certification and licenses) to perform their duties, but the employee must take proactive steps to renew, retain or obtain these documents.
