Job description

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Progress towards NetZero targets (e.g., percentage reduction in carbon emissions year-over-year).
  • Milestones achieved in the NetZero roadmap.
  • Number and impact of strategic initiatives implemented.

Engage with Principals on future sustainability pathways and joint opportunities.

  • Number of successful engagements and collaborations.
  • Quantifiable outcomes from joint sustainability initiatives (e.g., projects launched, emissions reductions).
  • Feedback from Principals on collaboration effectiveness.

Identify and pursue green business development and financing opportunities.

  • Number of green business opportunities identified and pursued.
  • Value and impact of green financing secured.
  • ROI from green business initiatives.

Conduct due diligence for new business ventures and mergers/acquisitions to assess sustainability compliance and risk.

  • Number of due diligence assessments completed.
  • Percentage of identified risks mitigated or addressed.
  • Compliance level of new ventures with sustainability criteria.

Required Skills to be Successful:

  • Master’s degree (preferably in sustainability, environmental science, or a related field).
  • At least 5 years of experience in sustainability, specifically within a matrix organization.
  • Experience in automotive (dealers, OEMs) or consulting sectors.

About the Team:
You will be reporting to GM Strategy & Transformation.

What Equips You for the Role:

  • Master’s degree (postgraduate education preferred).
  • At least 5 years of experience in the sustainability area in OEM, dealers, or consultancy.
  • Experience in a matrix organization.
  • Demonstrated experience in project management.
  • Proven track record in developing and presenting business cases to senior stakeholders.
  • Previous experience in the automotive business.
  • Capable of working autonomously and independently in organizing tasks.

Desired Candidate Profile

  • 1. Sustainability Expertise

  • Environmental Science Knowledge: Deep understanding of environmental issues such as climate change, resource depletion, pollution, biodiversity, and ecological systems.
  • Sustainability Standards & Certifications: Familiarity with global sustainability frameworks (e.g., the UN SDGs, Paris Agreement), industry standards (e.g., ISO 14001, LEED, B Corp certification), and reporting frameworks (e.g., GRI, SASB, CDP).
  • Sustainable Supply Chain Management: Understanding of sustainable sourcing, green procurement practices, and managing suppliers to meet sustainability goals.
  • 2. Strategic Leadership

  • Visionary Thinking: Ability to develop long-term sustainability strategies that align with company goals and societal needs.
  • Change Management: Leading and managing cultural shifts within the organization to foster sustainability practices across departments.
  • Risk Management: Identifying environmental, social, and governance (ESG) risks and formulating strategies to mitigate them.
  • Policy Development: Creating internal policies that align with both regulatory standards and best sustainability practices.
  • 3. Data Analysis & Reporting

  • ESG Reporting & Metrics: Proficiency in tracking and reporting on sustainability performance using key performance indicators (KPIs) and sustainability reporting tools.
  • Carbon Footprint Analysis: Experience in calculating, reducing, and offsetting carbon footprints.
  • Data-Driven Decision Making: Use of data analytics to measure sustainability impact and inform strategy decisions.
  • 4. Stakeholder Engagement & Communication

  • Internal & External Communication: Strong communication skills to engage both internal teams and external stakeholders (e.g., customers, investors, regulators) on sustainability issues.
  • Public Relations & Advocacy: Ability to advocate for sustainability within the company and to the public, managing corporate reputation and positioning the company as a sustainability leader.
  • Investor Relations: Communicating sustainability efforts to shareholders and investors, particularly in terms of financial returns on sustainable investments and ESG performance.
