Surgical Nurse

Responsibilities:

• Assess patients’ medical history and current condition.
• Educate patients and their families about the surgical procedure and post-operative care.
• Prepare the operating room (OR) by ensuring all surgical tools and equipment are sterilized and ready.
• Assist in positioning the patient and applying sterile drapes.

Intraoperative Duties:

• Assist the surgical team by handing instruments and supplies during the procedure.
• Monitor vital signs and communicate any changes to the surgical team.
• Ensure the sterility of the operating field.
• Operate and manage surgical equipment as needed.
• Monitor the patient’s recovery and report any complications.
• Provide pain management and wound care.
• Educate patients on post-surgical care and discharge instructions.
• Collaborate with the healthcare team to ensure a smooth transition from surgery to recovery.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

• Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
• License & Certification: Registered Nurse (RN) license; Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certifications. Some positions may require Certified Perioperative Nurse (CNOR) certification.
• Experience: Prior experience in surgical or critical care nursing is preferred.
• Skills:
  • Strong knowledge of surgical procedures and sterile techniques.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Attention to detail and ability to work under pressure.
  • Proficiency in using medical equipment and electronic health records (EHR).
