Job description

Scope of work (JOB PURPOSE)

The role entails supporting the engineering shifts within the rides engineering department by managing the statutory inspections of all attractions, associated equipment, park vehicles, mechanized plant, and ride buildings through a planned preventative maintenance approach. The primary focus is to maximize ride and equipment availability and ensure safety in operation. This requires strong leadership skills to effectively plan, prepare, and oversee the engineering team’s activities throughout the operational season.

Main Responsibilities

  • To work as operational engineer carrying out Planned Preventative Maintenance and ride start up procedures.
  • To lead teams of engineering personnel during park operation to provide an effective breakdown service that will facilitate excellent ride availability and safety for our guests and staff.
  • To lead teams of engineering personnel to administer the PPM and safety checks in line with company procedures.
  • To assist the engineering management team with all aspects of the daily running of the engineering department. All with the aim of maximizing ride and equipment availability and safety in operation.
  • To assist the department’s managerial team and charge hands as and when required to fulfil the department’s KPI’s, objectives and function.
  • To ensure written documentation relating to pre-opening checks and maintenance works are accurate to reflect changes in procedure.
  • To ensure that PPM documentation is completed in a timely manner in line with department procedures.
  • During the low season period, the role involves carrying out Annual Strip and Annual Maintenance programmed to facilitate PPM and a thorough annual inspection of all attractions by an external body, all in order to obtain a Non-Objection Certificate (NOC) to the agreed deadlines.
  • To have an active role in the development of the annual strip down plan.
  • To undertake additional responsibility as directed by the department management team following appropriate instruction/training.
  • To maintain and keep in good condition of the tools provided to enable professional and competent completion of maintenance tasks.
  • To develop professional and considerate relationships with both internal customer departments and external suppliers and consultants.
  • To manage unplanned maintenance, planned preventative maintenance, ride start up procedures and safety checks.
  • To assist with the auditing of the department to ensure that planned preventative maintenance and safety checks are carried out as per the recommendations of the ride manufacturer and in accordance with the EN 13814 and DAC requirements.
  • To ensure the team attend ride breakdowns in a timely manner and to ensure that work is completed safely and efficiently.
  • To assist the departments managerial team as and when required.
  • To liaise with external bodies to ensure compliance with EN13814scheme/ DAC and all other third parties.
  • To produce risk assessments as appropriate and as necessary.
  • To ensure engineering department audits are carried out as per company procedures.
  • To develop annual strip down/ servicing program. All to obtain a (NOC) Non-Objection Certificate prior to each ride going into operation and to hand over of rides to operations as per the agreed deadlines.
  • To allocate PPM work tasks during both the operational season and the annual strip down period and to ensure that these are completed in a professional & competent manner and to the agreed time and dates.
  • To assist with the administration of weekly and monthly work rosters, for department members, to ensure correct levels are maintained against operational demand.
  • To have input in devising and implementing strategies for the efficient operation and management of the engineering team to fault find and administer route cause remedial work.
  • To represent the engineering department at internal park.
  • To communicate relevant information between shift change.

Health & Safety

Managers/Supervisors are responsible for all aspects of Health, Safety & Security within their department, in line with the Group Policy (HS001). They must ensure that risk assessments have been carried out, that safe working procedures are in place for all work activities and that all employees under their management are aware of the Group Health, Safety and Security Policy and their obligations under it. They must ensure that safe working practices are monitored, and that risk assessments and procedures are reviewed regularly. Where incidents do occur, they must ensure that they are investigated appropriately and that where necessary, corrective action is taken to ensure that such incidents are not repeated.

Qualifications, Experience, & Skills

Required Qualifications:

  • Qualified to at least C&G level 3, or approved equivalent, in either mechanical or electrical engineering supplemented by at least 5 years’ experience of working in ideally a theme park environment, or other comparable heavy engineering/industrial operation at a supervisory or management level.
  • Ideally a Full working knowledge of the HSG 175, EN 13814 and DAC requirements.
  • A full working knowledge of appropriate engineering related statutory requirements e.g. certification and safe use of lifting equipment, C.O.S.H.H., safe use and written schemes of pressure vessels, general responsibilities for the maintenance of a Safe Working Environment under the Health & Safety at Work Act etc.

Job-Specific Skills:

  • Ideally a working knowledge of EN13814scheme / EIAC and all other third parties.
