The Aquarium Submersible Operator is responsible for delivering an excellent guest experience by maintaining the professional appearance and cleanliness of the submersible. This includes ensuring the health and safety of animals, which can involve animal behavior observational skills and an induction into the Endless Ocean ecosystem, along with guests and colleagues while operating the vessel. This trained individual is responsible for the operation of the vessel at all times.
This position requires working in confined spaces, in and under the water with members of the public. It also requires working in varying shifts based on business needs, including opening, mid, and closing shifts, weekends, and holidays.

Candidates should have an ongoing desire to learn, broaden, and convey their knowledge among coworkers to ensure a smooth-running team operation. The Job Scope includes:
- Maintaining cleanliness and integrity of the submersible and its operating equipment.
- Ensuring that all submersible operations safety measures are always followed.
- Ability to follow detailed safety and operational checklists as instructed.
- Safely operating the submersible through designated routes and speeds.
- Managing the submersible in a single pilot environment, including life support, submersible operations, and guest interaction.
- Monitoring and assisting with loading/unloading of guests, briefing, and ensuring safety protocols are adhered to.
- Maintaining high standards for the submersible and onboard equipment, including O2 systems, fire extinguishers, and life support systems.
- Reading gauges to verify sufficient levels of life support parameters, including air pressure and oxygen.
- Performing other duties as assigned by leadership.
- Maintaining records of daily activities, opening/closing checklists, reports, and logs.
- Familiarity with the Endless Ocean ecosystem and proper animal-safe activities with the marine vessel.
- Accurate reporting of animal observations during submersible operations.
- Proactively engaging and motivating guests about the experience and animal life at SeaWorld Abu Dhabi through interaction, education, and answering questions while resolving concerns with a positive demeanor.
- Maintaining rescue skill competency and basic life support skill competency at “test ready” levels.
- Completing accurate daily logs and records.
- Ensuring that all submersible equipment and materials are ready prior to park operations and safely stored after park closing.
- Reporting to leadership the status of inventory used for marine vessel operations.
- Maintaining professional development on all OSHMS (Occupational Safety and Health Management System) regulations.
- Completing all training required by the department and facilities.
- Utilizing safe handling, storage, and disposal practices for toxic substances and hazardous waste in accordance with company policies.
- Participating in emergency exercises.
- Supporting other aquarium programs as needed and trained.
- Performing other duties as assigned by leadership.
To be considered for the role, you will need to have:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- SCUBA Diver Certification.
- Oxygen handling certification (or ability to obtain).
- Rigging and lifting certification (or ability to obtain).
- CPR and First Aid certified and Oxygen Provider (or ability to obtain).
- 2 years’ scuba diving experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Excellent diving and in-water rescue skills.
- Basic mathematical skills.
- Demonstrable oratory ability in groups of up to five people.
- Ability to lift/move up to 45 kgs without accommodation.
- Passing of physical and medical fitness test in line with industry standards, including being free of any cardiopulmonary disease, disorder, or damage to the lungs such as extensive scarring, asthma, TB, fibrosis, etc.
- Free of claustrophobia.
- Able to swim 200 meters nonstop and tread water for 15 minutes.
- SCUBA Rescue Diver or equivalent.
- Marine Driving License.
- 2 years’ experience in a Theme Park or leisure venue.
- Multiple recorded open water dives within the last 2 years.
- 2 years’ experience operating a marine vehicle or light aircraft.
- Basic computer knowledge including MS Office.
- Basic verbal Arabic communication skills.
- Knowledge of elasmobranch, teleost, and invertebrate biology.
