Staff Midwife-Tower A-Ground - Labor and Delivery Wing

The Staff Midwife (SM) is accountable for the coordination of nursing care, including direct patient care, patient/family education, and transitions of care. SM’s role is to provide antenatal, intrapartum, and postnatal care to childbearing women and their newborns according to the Midwifery Scope of Practice as defined by the regulatory body. The SM supports professional nursing practice across practice settings and across the continuum of care to meet the needs of the patient and family. The SM will understand, support, and promote the mission, vision, and values of SSMC; The SM will adhere to and promote the Professional Midwives Code of Conduct for Abu Dhabi and UAE.

Responsibilities:

1. Assessment and Diagnosis: Collects and analyzes assessment data to determine a diagnosis and/or issues.
2. Planning and Outcomes Identification: Identifies expected outcomes and develops a plan that addresses health promotion, health restoration, and health maintenance to attain expected outcomes.
3. Implementation and Coordination of Care Delivery.
4. Health Teaching and Health Promotion.
5. Evaluation: Evaluates progress toward attainment of outcomes.
6. Evidence-based Practice and Research: Integrates evidence and research findings into practice.
7. Leadership: Demonstrates leadership behaviors in practice settings, across the profession, and in the community.
8. Analyses complications and risk factors around pregnancy and refers to the appropriate physician.
9. Applies the principles of professional codes of ethics that ensure individual rights in all areas of Practice.
10. Maintains a professional and therapeutic nurse-patient relationship and serves as a patient advocate assisting patients and families in developing skills for self-advocacy.
11. Speaks up to question healthcare practices as appropriate for safety and quality improvement.
12. Discloses any observed illegal or incompetent practices and decisions made by potentially impaired healthcare staff per organizational policy.
13. Evaluates own nursing and midwifery practice in relation to professional practice standards and guidelines, rules, and regulations.
14. Considers factors related to effectiveness, cost, environmental health, and impact on practice and organization.
15. Utilizes current resources related to standards of care, policies and procedures, and patient needs.
16. Navigates and utilizes electronic resources for information retrieval, communication, and documentation.
17. Evaluates factors related to patient safety, effectiveness, availability, and cost when determining practice options.
18. Promotes a practice environment that reduces environmental health risks for staff.
19. Communicates environmental health risks and exposure reduction strategies to healthcare consumers, families, colleagues, and communities.
20. Demonstrates a commitment to continuous learning and education for self and others and mentors healthcare team members for the advancement of nursing practices, the profession, and quality healthcare.
21. Oversees and responds to all levels of obstetrics emergencies according to the organization's policies and procedures.

Desired Candidate Profile

Required:
• NLT 2 years’ experience as a Midwife in a maternity hospital or appropriate setting.

Educational Qualification:
• Bachelor’s degree in Midwifery or equivalent qualification in Midwifery (minimum three (3) years course duration) OR
• BSc in Nursing or equivalent (minimum three (3) years course duration) and Midwifery Certificate (minimum one (1) year course duration) OR
• Associate degree in Nursing from Canada or USA (minimum two (2) years course duration) and successful completion of the National exam and Midwifery Certificate (minimum one (1) year course duration).
• AND Valid/current national license.
• AND BLS.
