Job Overview

The Structural Engineer will be responsible for overseeing and managing all structural engineering activities for the transportation project during the preconstruction and construction phases. Experience in Project Management Consultancy (PMC) and railway projects is required. This role is crucial for ensuring the construction meets all safety, quality, and structural standards.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Validate the structural design provided by the D&B contractor ensuring compliance with project requirements and industry standards.
  • Review and assess structural reports, drawings, and specifications submitted by the D&B contractor.
  • Review structural analysis and provide recommendations for the design and construction of elevated stations.
  • Identify and mitigate structural risks providing advice on potential opportunities and threats.
  • Provide regular progress reports to the client and internal stakeholders highlighting any structural risks and mitigation measures.
  • Address stakeholder concerns regarding structural integrity or project progress in a timely manner.
  • Ensure the provision of all necessary structural data to the Contract Administration Senior Manager.
  • Provide technical support during the construction supervision phase addressing any structural issues that arise.
  • Work closely with required departments to ensure compliance with legal, financial, and corporate protocols.
  • Prepare and deliver structural presentations as required.
  • Drive progression via coordination meetings ensuring all structural obligations are met.
  • Liaise with external consultants, contractors, and regulatory authorities to ensure compliance with structural requirements.
  • Provide training and guidance to junior engineers and project team members on structural matters.

Qualifications and Educational Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Structural Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field. A Master's degree is preferred.
  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) or Professional Engineer (PE) status preferred.

Knowledge and Experience:

  • 7-10 years of experience in structural engineering with elevated railway station designs, particularly in complex urban environments or high-traffic areas.
  • Previous involvement in Project Management Consultancy (PMC) and railway projects is required.
  • In-depth knowledge of structural principles, construction contracts, and industry standards.
  • Strong negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills; ability to manage multiple stakeholders effectively.
  • Prior experience within a transportation or rail project involving multiple contractors would be favorable.
  • Strong emphasis on working on overhead or elevated railway/metro/transport stations structures.
  • Extensive experience with structural design and analysis tools (e.g., SAP2000, ETABS, STAAD Pro) or equivalent.
  • Proven experience with steel facade design, including understanding the integration of architecture and engineering in complex building facades.

Preferred Skills:

  • Strong technical expertise in the design and analysis of steel structures and facades.
  • Excellent project management and coordination skills, including experience overseeing the work of contractors and consultants.
  • Strong communication and leadership abilities with experience in mentoring and leading a team of engineers.
  • In-depth knowledge of international design codes, local standards, and best practices in steel structure and facade design.
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and maintain quality standards in a fast-paced environment.
