Job description

Role Purpose:

  1. Evaluate the eligibility of potential clients in the Individual business segment and recommend appropriate premium rates based on comprehensive risk assessments.
  2. Contribute to achieving departmental goals and support the continuous enhancement and implementation of department policies and procedures.
  3. Effectively communicate with brokers and agents to gather necessary information, clarify uncertainties, and balance customer needs with company risk.
  4. Provide technical medical underwriting support and guidance for excellent customer service.
  5. Respond to intermediaries and broker queries and facilitate operations to provide the best customer experience.
  6. Assist in managing departmental operations to ensure that defined Turn-Around-Times (TATs) are met.
  7. Perform data analysis and data mining to profile medical costs.
  8. Liaise with Medical departments to enhance Business Management system advancement and automation processes and protect Daman from anti-selection.
  9. Stay commercially aware to offer flexibility in acquiring new business and retaining profitable accounts.
  10. Maintain detailed and accurate records of all underwriting decisions and policies.
  11. Identify and suggest improvements to underwriting guidelines to ensure consistency in underwriting practices and enhance business results.
  12. Stay informed about the latest medical knowledge, industry trends, and insurance regulations to make well-informed underwriting decisions.
  13. Train new joiners and junior colleagues in medical assessment techniques.

Key Requirements and Qualifications:

  1. Minimum 5 years in Individual/Medical underwriting.
  2. Experience in Medical Underwriting is preferred.
  3. Certificate in Level 1 ALMI or any other equivalent insurance certification preferred.
  4. FLMI, ALMI, or any other equivalent insurance certification is preferred.
  5. Bachelor’s degree in any medical discipline.

Skills and Competencies:

  1. Strong knowledge of the core principles of Insurance, medical terminology, and underwriting guidelines.
  2. Analytical and strategic thinking skills to evaluate complex medical information.
  3. Good leadership skills including people management and development skills.
  4. Excellent command of written and spoken English; knowledge of Arabic language is an advantage.
  5. Planning, forecasting, execution, and problem-solving skills.
  6. Attention to detail with a strong focus on quality.
  7. Flexible and able to work under pressure.
  8. Respectful and promotes trust and confidentiality.
  9. Result-oriented whilst ensuring high quality of work and able to “think out of the box.”
  10. Strong level of customer service and professionalism in all interactions.
  11. Able to work well in a multi-cultural environment and promote teamwork and knowledge sharing.
  12. Good knowledge of Microsoft applications.
