Job description

The Communication Specialist at Emirates Steel Arkan is responsible for managing and enhancing the organization's internal and external communication efforts. This role focuses on building and maintaining positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including employees, departments, media outlets, partners, customers, and the community. The Communication Specialist plays a vital role in conveying the company's messages, maintaining a positive brand image, and ensuring transparency in communication.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (Key Accountabilities)

  • Content Creation: Create engaging and informative content for internal and external communication channels, including the company intranet, website, social media, and marketing materials. Ensure consistent messaging and alignment with the company's brand and values.
  • Employee Engagement: Develop and execute initiatives to boost employee engagement and promote a positive organizational culture.
  • Media Relations: Develop and maintain relationships with media contacts. Write press releases, news articles, and other materials for media distribution. Handle media inquiries and arrange interviews with company spokespeople.
  • Public Relations: Plan and execute public relations campaigns and initiatives. Organize press conferences, media briefings, and events to promote company news and achievements. Monitor media coverage and prepare reports on public perception.
  • Crisis Communication: Develop and implement crisis communication plans to address potential reputational risks. Manage communication during crisis situations, providing accurate and timely information to stakeholders.
  • Community Engagement: Build relationships with local communities and relevant organizations. Support corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives and communicate the company's commitment to sustainability and community development.
  • Partnerships and Collaborations: Identify and explore opportunities for partnerships and collaborations that enhance the company's external communication efforts. Negotiate and manage external communication agreements or sponsorships.
  • Market Intelligence: Monitor industry trends and competitors' communication strategies. Provide insights and recommendations to the Communication Manager to adapt communication strategies accordingly.
  • Event Communication: Ensure effective communication before, during, and after events such as product launches, exhibitions, and trade shows.
  • Digital Communication: Develop and implement digital communication strategies to enhance the company's online presence. Manage the company's social media accounts, ensuring consistent messaging, engagement, and timely responses to inquiries. Create and curate content for digital platforms, including social media posts, blogs, and multimedia content.
  • Compliance and Ethics: Ensure that external communication adheres to company policies, industry regulations, and ethical standards. Maintain transparency and accuracy in all external communication materials.

Additional Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize workloads.
  • Any additional duties or tasks assigned by the reporting manager or deputy.

Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities (attributes) required

  • Proven experience in internal and external communication, public relations and media relations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong networking and relationship-building abilities.
  • Proficiency in digital communication tools and social media platforms.
  • Crisis communication and issues management expertise.
  • Knowledge of the steel industry or manufacturing sector (preferred but not mandatory).

Key Performance Indicators

Minimum Education Qualifications (Must Haves)

  • Bachelor's degree in communication, public relations, marketing, or a related field.
  • Proficiency in design software such as Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, etc).

Professional Experience (Must Haves)

  • 5+ years of experience, either in-house or at an agency in marketing, publishing, PR, and/or communications.

Key Performance Indicators

  • Satisfaction of internal customers (timeliness and quality of materials produced); Project-based performance measurements (e.g., budget, timing, quality of deliverables).
  • Digital Presence and Engagement: Growth in the number of followers/fans across social media platforms.
  • Follower sentiment and feedback on digital platforms.
  • Media and Press Relations: Number of positive media mentions and coverage. Effective handling of media inquiries and requests. Successful placement of press releases and articles in relevant media outlets.
  • Content Performance: Measurement of content effectiveness through key metrics (e.g., shares, likes, comments, click-throughs). Analysis of content relevance and alignment with the company's brand and values.
  • Crisis Management: Evaluation of the effectiveness of digital communication during crisis situations.
  • Response time and accuracy in providing crisis-related information on digital channels.
  • Partnership Impact: Assessment of the impact of digital communication efforts on partnerships and collaborations. Measurement of the reach and engagement generated through external partnerships on digital channels.
  • Event Promotion: Evaluation of the effectiveness of digital promotion for external events. Tracking the number of attendees or participants influenced by digital communication efforts.
  • Innovation and Technology Adoption: Implementation of innovative digital communication tactics and technologies. Adoption of new digital tools or platforms to improve communication efficiency and effectiveness.
