Specialist Cardiac Surgeon

Responsibilities:

1. Provides comprehensive and diligent cardio-thoracic surgical care to all patients, including pre- and post-operative care and such surgical procedures as are within incumbent's competence.
2. Assumes after-hours responsibility for the care of cardio-thoracic cases and makes daily rounds for those hospitalized.
3. Provides consultation services to physicians, other surgeons, and specialists as required.
4. Orders diagnostic laboratory studies and X-ray examinations, determining the diagnosis and prescribing applicable therapy.
5. Determines the eligibility of patients for admission.
6. Identifies need for tests or follow-up visits.
7. Supports Continuous Quality Improvement.
8. Exercises effective interpersonal skills in dealings with department staff, associates, and management.
9. Maintains confidentiality regarding patient information and administrative matters of a confidential nature.
10. Evidences dependability in carrying out the commitments and obligations of the position.
11. Demonstrates the ability to listen to others in promoting effective communication.
12. Develops a thorough understanding of hospital policies and procedures and demonstrates respect for them.
13. Performs other duties as assigned by the Head of the Department.
14. Complies with all OSH and infection control policies, standards, and procedures, and cooperates with hospital management to comply with those requirements.
15. Works in accordance with documented OSH procedures and instructions.
16. Familiarizes with emergency and evacuation procedures.
17. Notifies OSH hazards, incidents, near misses, and issues, and assists with the preparation of risk assessments and incident reports.
18. Complies with waste management procedures and policies.
19. Attends applicable OSH/infection control training programs, mock drills, and awareness programs.
20. Uses appropriate personal protective equipment and safety systems.
