New Build Engineer - Job Description
We are looking for immediate hiring of an expert and committed Ship Building Engineer at our Sharjah Hamriyah Free Zone office who would be responsible for building vessels from 20 to 80 meter LOA Vessels such as Tugs/Barges.
Linden Shipping International LLC (LSI) is a Marine Chartering and Towage Company. In 2007 LSI opened its new premises in Sharjah Hamriyah Free Zone with a 13,545 sq. mt yard adjacent to the port Jetty reserved for LSI vessels and their associates. LSI currently owns 62 vessels, and 8 cranes, as well as managing several vessels for their owners, and employs around 315 full-time staff. Our services include marine chartering, marine transportation, ship management, towages, offshore support, and marine construction projects.
Job Description:
As a Shipbuilding Engineer, you will be responsible for overseeing the construction of small to medium-sized vessels. You will work closely with a team of welders, fabricators, and engineers to ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and meet all safety and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Leading a Shipbuilding team for overall Fabrication/Erection/Mechanical completion and Certification Inspection to ensure efficient production and timely completion of small to medium vessel builds.
- Coordinate with Engineering, trades supervisory staff as well as internally in the department for completion activities.
- Oversee day-to-day operations of shipbuilding projects, ensuring adherence to timelines and budgets.
- Review blueprints, schematics, and technical documents to ensure accurate construction processes.
- Ensuring production works were done in compliance with quality & safety standards and codes (IACS 47, SOLAS, AWS, ASME IX, ASTM, & Classification societies).
- Preparing and monitoring KPI for each task.
- Plan and arrange manpower and materials for each task.
- To prepare a database for the entire tags for each discipline and manage the database in the project completion software.
- To issue, and update the completion check sheets, preservation check sheets & punch lists in the system, track them for completion and report generation.
- To do inspection and verification of installations Onboard and make punch lists if any.
- Handle a team of technicians & provide required information to his team viz. check sheets, drawings, schedules, etc.
- Comply with all relevant safety, quality, and environmental management policies, procedures, and controls to ensure a healthy and safe work environment.
- Ensure compliance with safety protocols and industry regulations.
- Troubleshoot and resolve any technical issues that arise during the build process.
- Communicate regularly with management and clients to provide updates on project progress.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
Qualifications:
- A Degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering / Marine Engineering / Naval Architecture is essential.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in shipbuilding or a related field, with a focus on small vessel construction.
- Knowledge and experience in all aspects of shipbuilding in a Shipyard or a similar facility with activities for conversion and new buildings.
- Good project management and contract administrative skills.
- Good knowledge and experience in handling site completion inspections, line walks and other process inspections.
- Good knowledge and experience in different processes involved in Ship construction activities and related quality requirements.
- Proven track record in supervising teams and successfully delivering shipbuilding projects.
- Conducting production meetings and assigning targets to Yard and subcon manpower.
- Preparing and submitting progress reports to the management.
- Prepare and submit reports of targeted and consumed manhours for a project.
- Strong knowledge of shipbuilding materials, tools, and techniques.
- Strong background in the resolution of technical issues during project planning and execution phases with excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Good knowledge of Microsoft Office especially in Excel.
- Competent and conversant with various project completion software.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and blueprints.
- Strong leadership and communication skills.
- Safety-conscious and detail-oriented.
Preferred Experience:
- Experience in managing multiple small-scale builds.
- Certifications in shipbuilding, welding, and related fields are a plus.
