Description

The DEWA R&D Center is looking to fill the vacancy of a senior researcher to contribute in project for development, fabrication, and characterization of novel 3D printing process for porous structure (e.g. membrane) in water desalination application. Specifically, the researcher will develop:

  • Develop and conduct research in areas of: novel 3D printing process for fabrication of porous structure (e.g. membrane) in water application develop and integrate new proof-of-concepts (TRL 1-2), and subsequently realize the engineering prototype (TRL 3-5)
  • Design, model, simulate, fabricate, test, characterize, troubleshoot the 3D-printed porous structure (e.g. membrane), and deliver final prototypes of 3D-printed porous structure (e.g. membrane) which meet the requirements.
  • The project requires an understanding of materials fabrication utilizing 3D printing/additive manufacturing processes for porous structure (e.g. membrane), and materials characterization (imaging, spectroscopy, physical, thermal, mechanical, electrical & optical, and electrochemical characterizations).
  • The candidate should be proficient in experimentation, simulation, characterization and should be comfortable to learn new skills needed for the job.

The candidate should be comfortable working as member of a dynamic, research-oriented group with several ongoing concurrent projects across multiple areas but also manage individual tasks independently. Thinking out of the box and comfort in bridging cross-disciplinary silos to conduct innovative research are strongly desirable qualities.

Duration: 2 years with potential for extension, This will not be a direct DEWA hire but through a third party.

Basic Qualifications

  • PhD in a related discipline e.g. Material Science & Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Mechanical Engineering, Interdisciplinary Engineering, etc.
  • Scopus-indexed publication record
  • Research exposure in 3D printing fabrication process/method Basic knowledge / experience in materials characterizations (imaging, spectroscopy, physical characterization, thermal characterization, mechanical characterization, electrical & optical characterization, and electrochemical characterizations). Basic knowledge of computer aided design, multi-physics simulation, reverse osmosis, membrane filtration

Preferred Qualifications

  • PhD in a related discipline e.g. Material Science & Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Mechanical Engineering, Interdisciplinary Engineering, etc. Scopus-indexed publication records Intellectual property (patent) records Strong research experience (equal to or more than 5 years of work experience after PhD graduation) and ability in 3D printing fabrication process/method of porous structure (e.g. as evidenced from published paper publications and patents) Familiar with different type of additive manufacturing methods
  • Extensive experience with materials characterizations (imaging, spectroscopy, physical characterization, thermal characterization, mechanical characterization, electrical & optical characterization, and electrochemical characterizations).
  • Advanced knowledge and experience in reverse osmosis, membrane filtration Advanced knowledge and experience in multi-physics simulation (e.g. COMSOL) Advanced knowledge and experience in computer aided design (e.g. FUSION 360, Solidwork)
