Senior Manager, Quality and Medication Safety Services

Manager, Quality & Medication Safety Services is responsible for coordinating medication safety best practice within the medication use system at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi (CCAD). Participates in applying and advocating for CCAD's Just and Safety culture through active involvement in maintaining and advancing CCAD's event reporting program. The position is also responsible for developing and coordinating ongoing Quality Improvement initiatives to ensure accreditation and regulatory compliance in line with the Quality and Patient Safety Institutes (QPSI) quality and safety goals.

POSITION DIMENSIONS

Reports directly to: Executive Clinical Director, Pharmacy

PRIMARY JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Manages medication event reporting, review, and investigation to determine root causes, while assuring accurate data entry into CCAD's event database in collaboration with pharmacy managers.
  2. Analyzes data and determines trends for process improvement, develops the required measures to eliminate the likelihood occurrence of errors.
  3. Facilitates changes needed to meet Joint Commission International (JCI), MOH, HAAD and other standards of international accreditation organization.
  4. Participates in all hospital committees related to medication safety and medication adverse occurrences, and assists in setting annual goals for medication safety improvement.
  5. Assists the Senior Director of Pharmacy Services in organizing and administering CCAD's pharmacy program ensuring that the Senior Director of Pharmacy Services is informed of all matters and gaps related to the department in order to immediately mitigate potential or actual risks.
  6. Provides guidance, support and direction to managers and Caregivers in all matters related to quality and medication safety.
  7. Responsible for dissemination, interpretation, and practice of departmental and hospital policies, procedures, and regulations.
  8. Assures that JCI standards and requirements for quality improvement are known in order to maintain continuous readiness by the Department of Pharmacy Services.
  9. Implements and updates the policy and procedure manual, as appropriate, to meet JCI requirements.
  10. Interprets standards and performance improvement processes, as required, in order to assist all Caregivers in providing the safest level of patient care.
  11. Submits a monthly productivity report to the Senior Director of Pharmacy services in order to quantify and quality the impact of the Department's Quality and Medication Safety Program.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

Typical physical demands include: a high degree of manual dexterity to sufficiently perform computer functions on a keyboard, produce materials on a PC and operate basic office equipment, normal or corrected vision and hearing, mobility sufficient to visit with departments or employees throughout CCAD and lift up to 30 lbs.

QUALIFICATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

ESSENTIAL

  • BSc and MSc or Doctor of Pharmacy degree from an accredited College of Pharmacy Required.
  • Current National license Required.
  • Board Certification or Residency in Clinical Pharmacy preferred.

EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum of at least six years (6) experience as a hospital pharmacist is required, of which five (5) should be as a clinical pharmacist providing pharmaceutical care or residency training program providing Pharmaceutical care.
  • Minimum of 1 year direct involvement in safe medication management duties.
  • Formal education in safe medication management (ie, residency training, medication safety fellowship).
  • Knowledge of learning theories and pharmacy concepts and practices.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills.
  • Evidence of teaching/mentoring other pharmacists is preferred.
  • Evidence of Research Activity is preferred.
  • Proficient in the use of PCs, spreadsheets and other databases.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to speak and write in English is required.
  • Ability to speak and write in both English and Arabic is preferred.
