The Senior Manager of Digital Factory is accountable for the successful delivery of Industry 4.0 use cases for EGA. This includes prioritizing those use cases together with all business areas and ensuring the factory is organized to deliver up to 20 use cases every quarter. He reports to the Industry 4.0 Director about the value generated by the chosen and delivered use case to enable the Industry 4.0 programme business case. Each Wave (min 3 per year) of the Digital Factory is expected to enable around $10M annual run rate.
The Senior Manager of Digital Factory is responsible for enabling the Business Areas to define their Digital Value Roadmap fully aligned with the strategic objectives of EGA and the business areas. Following this definition of the Value Roadmap, he is responsible for the quality of the combined Industry 4.0 roadmap, for use case selection, delivery, and implementation. He has a comprehensive overview of the full Industry 4.0 portfolio, providing coaching and guidance to the Business Areas in identifying and validating use cases.
He is also expected to ensure applicability of Industry 4.0 levers to the problems raised by the Business Areas and is best positioned to challenge/validate the impact estimations from the identified use cases. This individual translates business problems into technical solutions and guides the broader organization towards successful use case selection, delivery, and implementation.
He is also the leader of the Product Ownership practice at EGA, engaging with experts on best practices and ensuring they are widely spread across the product community in EGA. As part of this, he is coaching and upskilling the Product Owners in his team and beyond (e.g., business product owners).
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Organize and contribute to the Value Roadmap definition for each Business Area (so called Shape roadmap) including:
- Bring benchmarking expertise from other industries and senior consultancy
- Contribute to inspire the business areas leaders in their roadmap definition
- Ensure consistency of each business area Shape roadmap to the overall Industry 4.0 strategic objectives
- Engage with all levels across EGA to manage relationships and expectations
Maintain an overview of the Industry 4.0 portfolio across the organization, including:
- Consolidate inventory of all Industry 4.0 (all 10 capabilities) initiatives across the organization, all maintained as part of an integrated roadmap
- Accountable for collecting, tracking, and communicating key delivery milestones across the portfolio of projects
- Establish and monitor KPIs and operational metrics for projects and platforms
- Establish work processes for project intake, estimation, prioritization, and reporting
- Establish program reporting structure and cadence with key metrics and templates
- Maintain project information and updates in project planning and management systems (Wave / CMOS) together with the business areas
Orchestrate and lead the use case selection process as part of the Wave kick-off preparation, including:
- Shortlist use cases for the next wave ahead of use case implementation in full alignment with the business area
- Provide coaching and guidance to Functions in refining shortlisted use cases (incl. feasibility check, impact estimation, problem statement definition)
- Organize and lead use case selection sessions and codify outcomes
- Review business cases for proposed projects and track and communicate value realized
- Estimate work effort required, create resource plans, and calibrate program plans based on dependencies and capacity constraints
- Facilitate and support quarterly prioritization sessions with the leadership team to establish goals
Lead use case delivery (every 4 months up to 20 use cases for an enabled yearly run rate of more than $10M per wave involving all business areas progressively):
- Ensure each use case is ready for action at the launch of the Wave, with the 9-point checklist approved, the value determined, and the team assembled.
- Follow use case progression and provide coaching to Product Owners on priorities and critical milestones
- Help the use case team in problem-solving in case hands-on coaching is requested
- Ensure use case impact is validated and that there is a clear problem definition
- Ensure use case implementation and deployment
- Identify, understand, and mitigate issues and risks proactively with project teams, business partners, and leadership
- Problem-solve with the use case team (and challenge if necessary) implementation actions and KPIs selected to track progression
- Actively involved in scaling the solution across the organization and generating buy-in with business users.
- Ensure budget, timeline, and scope are consistent throughout the course of all ongoing projects
Lead the definition of the Product Owner practice at EGA
- Provide coaching to initiative owners to prepare, launch, and track implementation of I4.0 use cases
- Role model the best agile practices as recommended by the Agile Coach and Scrum Master team
- Serve as a role model and coach (incl. capability building) for the Product Owners within the organization (in his team and across EGA functions) in alignment with the Digital Academy Product Owner curriculum.
- Create and lead the EGA product owners community of practice
Minimum Qualifications:
- BSc or MS Engineering (Mechanical/Chemical) or related technical discipline
- Minimum of 15 years of domain knowledge experience in the metal and mining industry managing a portfolio of highly visible, complex, and wide-scope data platforms and analytics initiatives with successful conclusions. Additional experience in Energy is valuable.
- Extensive company knowledge and business acumen and also the education to understand mathematical models and to work with data scientists to bring out valuable insights.
- Has expert and a unique skill set of a mix of business knowledge, general technical fluency, and project-management excellence.
- Ability to smoothly deliver highly complex projects using effective planning, pragmatic approaches, and collaboration, despite obstacles and ambiguity
- Deep knowledge and experience applying agile development techniques to solving business problems, particularly in a product management role or mindset
- Exceptional communication and presentation skills with the ability to seamlessly communicate with a large number of stakeholders/senior management and deliver key messages with attention to detail
- Familiarity with agile tools and techniques including Azure DevOps
- Familiarity with data management processes and cloud data and analytics technologies
