Senior Laboratory Technologist

We are seeking a Senior Laboratory Technologist to join our Biomedical Research Laboratories. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background in managing, operating, and maintaining advanced laboratory equipment, while also supporting research and teaching activities. The role includes providing essential laboratory services, maintaining equipment, training users, and ensuring safety standards are upheld in alignment with the institution’s protocols.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Flow Cytometry: Operate and maintain flow cytometers, including troubleshooting and performing routine and preventive maintenance. Assist researchers and students with experimental setup, data analysis, and interpretation using flow cytometry.
2. Specialized Equipment: Support and maintain other specialized laboratory equipment (e.g., Luminex, Confocal Microscopy). Train users and provide troubleshooting for these instruments.
3. Protocol Development: Collaborate with research staff to develop and standardize protocols, ensuring accurate and reproducible experimental outcomes.
4. Training and Support: Demonstrate and provide guidance to researchers and students in the use of laboratory equipment and specialized techniques. Assist with experiment design and problem-solving to support research objectives.
5. Maintenance and Safety: Conduct routine inspections and maintenance of laboratory equipment, coordinating with suppliers or service teams as needed. Ensure compliance with laboratory safety policies and procedures.
6. Teaching and Academic Support: Provide academic support in all forms required. Prepare teaching laboratories, assist faculty with practical sessions (Physiology and Multidisciplinary), and provide guidance to students during Basic Medical Sciences practical sessions.
7. General Laboratory Duties: Handle day-to-day laboratory operations, including managing inventory, ensuring cleanliness, and adhering to standard operating procedures.
8. Continuous Improvement: Stay updated on advances in laboratory technology and techniques to enhance lab efficiency and the quality of research outputs.
9. Additional: Undertake relevant tasks as and when assigned by the laboratory manager and department chair.

Essential Qualifications and Experience:

1. Bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences or related field (master’s degree preferred).
2. Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in a research or biomedical laboratory setting.
3. Strong hands-on experience in Flow Cytometry, including operation, data analysis, troubleshooting, and maintenance.
4. Experience with general biomedical laboratory techniques, including histology, immunohistochemistry, cell culture, and molecular biology.
5. Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
6. Strong organizational, multitasking, and problem-solving skills.

Desirable Qualifications and Skills:

1. Experience in Confocal Microscopy, Luminex Technology, including setup, usage, and maintenance.
2. Previous experience training and supporting students and researchers in the lab.
3. Demonstrated ability to manage a demanding workload with minimal supervision.
4. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
5. Strong commitment to safety, with experience ensuring compliance with laboratory safety protocols.
