Job Summary:

Our client, a leading dry bulk trading / shipping company in Dubai is seeking a Senior Financial Controller to oversee financial reporting, risk management, P&L analysis, and operational finance for its dry bulk freight business. The role requires a strong understanding of freight trading, voyage economics, and financial controls to ensure accurate performance tracking and compliance with industry regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Financial Control & Reporting:
   1. Oversee daily P&L reporting for dry bulk freight operations, ensuring accurate financial data.
   2. Monitor voyage results, freight earnings, and cost allocations to identify discrepancies.
   3. Ensure compliance with internal controls, accounting standards, and regulatory requirements.
   4. Prepare financial reports, forecasts, and performance analysis for senior management.
2. Middle Office & Risk Management:
   1. Analyze market exposures related to freight rates, bunker costs, and derivative hedging strategies.
   2. Monitor and validate freight trading positions, ensuring accurate risk reporting.
   3. Collaborate with commercial teams to assess charter party agreements and voyage profitability.
   4. Work closely with risk and compliance teams to ensure adherence to corporate policies.
3. Operational & Treasury Support:
   1. Support treasury in cash flow forecasting, working capital management, and trade finance.
   2. Assist in reviewing charter party agreements and lease terms from a financial perspective.
   3. Work alongside operations and finance teams to ensure efficient cost management.
   4. Monitor demurrage, laytime calculations, and vessel performance impact on P&L.
4. Stakeholder Management:
   1. Act as a liaison between commercial, treasury, and accounting teams to streamline financial reporting.
   2. Provide insights to senior management on financial performance and cost optimizations.
   3. Support external audits, financial due diligence, and regulatory reporting requirements.

Key Requirements:

1. Experience: 5-10+ years in middle office, financial control, or risk management within dry bulk freight or shipping.
2. Education: Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field; CPA/CFA preferred.
3. Industry Knowledge: Strong understanding of voyage P&L, freight trading, risk management, and financial reporting.
4. Skills: Proficiency in financial modelling, cost control, and accounting standards (IFRS).
5. Technology: Experience with ERP systems, risk management platforms, and financial reporting tools.
