Senior Enterprise Systems Specialist

The purpose of this job is to provide the expertise service of a VMware ESX specialist with in-depth knowledge of VMware HA, DRS and VDI, through maintaining an optimal virtualized server infrastructure.

The role sitting within the Infrastructure Team will deliver, maintain and support technologies across both the physical and virtual server estate, as well as the storage and backup platforms in use. This is a technical hands-on role specializing in infrastructure processes.

This is an ideal role for candidates in the infrastructure space with exposure across VMware and Storage solutions, looking to develop their skills across Server, Virtualization and Storage within an ITIL environment.

Working with the latest technologies, developing and supporting applications critical to the business. You will build strong relationships with other teams to identify and understand improvements that the client can make.

The mission-critical VM and storage environment runs all ADT servers including MS Exchange, the TOS servers, Oracle EBS and IBM Maximo servers, databases (Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server) and all Khalifa Port VDI. If this environment is sub-optimal it immediately negatively affects the Operations of ADT and could bring the TOS or ASC operation to a halt which will then result in the whole terminal being down.

In addition, ensure 24x7 support for IT operations.

Job Responsibilities

• Administration of VMware, storage, Infrastructure, virtualization, ESX, EMC, VCE, Windows Server Operating Systems
• Design, build, implement, extend, and improve performance of VMware ESX HA and Storage infrastructure.
• Implementation to extend, maintain and improve the performance of mission-critical VMware ESX HA and Storage infrastructure.
• Backup of virtualization environment.
• To install OS and applications on the VMware HA environments.
• To implement and document VDI based workstation environments.
• To successfully perform failover and load balancing tests.
• Conduct limited security audits and apply security updates.
• Develop documentation pertinent to all phases of major system build, operation, maintenance, and training.
• Deployment, Integration, and Maintenance of Database servers.
• Work according to IT/COBIT/ITIL procedures, ensuring changes are handled as per procedure.
• Perform technical and engineering assignments involving research, analysis, installation, testing, troubleshooting, and maintenance of complex systems and subsystems in multiplatform environments.
• Monitor and maintain VMware, Storage environments, and Databases.
• Maintain VMware for servers, for PC roll-out, and for EMC storage.
• Assist in the transferring of VM and storage knowledge for the rest of the staff.
• Assist in management of server systems such as Exchange, SCOM, and SharePoint.
• Assist in IT installation works where necessary.

Knowledge/ Skills

• A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or other related field.
• Certification on Microsoft, VMware, and EMC storage.
• Minimum of 6 years of relevant VMware and SAN experience is required.
• VMware ESX, HA, and DRS.
• Advanced experience of OS and application installations on VMware HA environments.
• Advanced experience with VDI workstation environment implementations.
• Experience in managing and maintaining databases.
• Experience in VMware for servers, for PC roll-out.
• Experience with SAN systems required, EMC storage knowledge a plus.
