The Opportunity:
Presight is looking for an experienced professional Senior Engineer - Database Administration (DBA) with technical skills and knowledge that extends across Applications/Server/Storage/Network technologies to administer a large, complex production DB environment. The role performs highly effective centralized database administration for multiple databases, troubleshoot and provide system level support/ guidance/ solutions to ensure a 24X7 operations of mission critical applications.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure DB availability 24X7 for mission critical applications.
- Proactively manage and maintain security standards and controls. Implements and maintains database security and encryption.
- Actively seek to optimize and simplify DB architecture.
- Take ownership of performance and capacity monitoring aspects of the DB.
- Execution of data migration jobs and scripts as required.
- Assist the infrastructure team in sizing hardware used for the DB.
- Support and collaborate with product developers. Contribute to the creation and maintenance of disaster recovery plans.
- Create a reliable backup strategy, oversees backup, clustering, mirroring, replication and failover.
- Determine and document DB policies, procedures and standards.
- Performance testing and evaluation to ensure data security, privacy and integrity. Identification of bottlenecks and deadlock issues.
- Ensure SLA's & operational KPI’s are met, working as necessary with internal and external support functions when major incidents occur.
- Performs maintenance operations daily, weekly and monthly on Oracle and SQL servers and databases, and information systems for the purpose of ensuring efficient program operations.
- Performs database backups and restorations and recovers corrupted databases.
- Evaluates and recommends new database technologies.
- Develops, manages, and tests database and information system backup and recovery plans.
- Prepares written materials for the purpose of documenting activities, providing written reference, and/or conveying information.
- Prepares and distributes reports, including but not limited to weekly and monthly status reports to management.
- Interface with Oracle Corporation for technical support including patch management and version control.
- Good knowledge of SQL, PLSQL, LINUX, WINDOWS, SCRIPTING, Other related duty as assigned.
- Comply with QHSE (Quality Health Safety and Environment), Business Continuity, Information Security, Privacy, Risk, Compliance Management and Governance of Organizations policies, procedures, plans and related risk assessments.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's in Computer Science or related field and minimum 6 years of experience as DBA.
- Ideally, Oracle Certified DB Professional (OCP) with more than 6 years’ experience with Oracle, in a lead role.
- Good knowledge of ms sqlserver, postgresql and native replication tools.
- Minimum of two years administering database platform specific advanced features (e.g. clustering, encryption, logical/physical standby, ETL, replication).
- Experience should include DB design (modelling and normalization), capacity planning, performance tuning, storage management, Data Partitioning, back-up and recovery, managing schemas, data security, report generation and DB clustering technologies, creating and configuring 24x7 highly-available databases.
- Extensive UNIX/LINUX experience.
- Oracle HA and replication (Data Guard, RMAN, Data pump, GoldenGate etc.).
- Architecture design principles.
- Hands on experience with DB standards and end user applications-translating capacity requirements into infrastructure deployment technology.
- Strong practical experience of ORACLE in a production RAC (ASM) environment with latest versions, logical/physical standby, ETL, replication.
- Must be a self-starter with a strong attention to detail.
- Experience with an organization with a key reliance on 24/7 reliability on its database.
- Hands on experience & knowledge in Shell script, python.
- Hands on experience in IBM DB2.
