Job description

Roles and Responsibilities

Is proactive in identifying a decrease in workload within own team and informs Supervisor when additional projects are needed to maintain utilization.

Execution:

Ensures junior team members are adhering to delivery standards and ensures essential procedures are followed based on knowledge of own industry. Uses discretion within set boundaries (operating procedures, processes, standards) to execute own tasks within a narrower job area to achieve defined deadlines/targets in the most effective and efficient way. Is required to coordinate activities with peers in the same discipline to meet deadlines and achieve set targets in the most effective and efficient way.

Responsibilities:

  • Design all electrical systems ensuring compliance with standards, local regulations, and authority requirements such as DEWA, ADDC, and UAE FIRE CODE.
  • Create detailed electrical drawings, schematics, and layouts for all the electrical systems, such as interior and exterior lighting design, small power distribution, cable routing, fire alarm, earthing, and lightning protection.
  • Prepare comprehensive electrical design documents, including drawings, specifications, schedules, and technical reports, utilizing ACAD (AutoCAD), Revit, and Navisworks.
  • Handle several electrical design tasks for multiple projects.
  • Conduct detailed electrical calculations, including load analysis, short-circuit analysis, voltage drop calculations, and cable sizing, utilizing appropriate software tools and engineering principles.
  • Collaborate closely with architects and other engineering disciplines to integrate electrical systems seamlessly into project designs.
  • Provide technical guidance to external stakeholders throughout the design and coordination process.

Requirements:

  • Proven experience as an Electrical Engineer, preferably with a focus on UAE projects.
  • In-depth knowledge of local regulations and authority requirements, such as DEWA, ADDC, and UAE FIRE CODE.
  • Strong technical capabilities in ACAD (AutoCAD), Revit, and Navisworks for designing and drafting electrical systems.
  • Familiarity with electrical load calculations, power distribution, voltage drop analysis, and cable sizing.
  • Proficient in using electrical engineering software tools for analysis and design.
  • Strong understanding of lighting systems, small power distribution, cable routing, earthing, and lightning protection.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently and handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or a related field is required.
  • Revit, AutoCAD, Dialux, Generator sizing tools, and ETAP.
  • Deals with less routine technical or operational problems with limited supervision and may solve moderately difficult problems that are not immediately evident and require some guidance from a more senior team member.

Desired Candidate Profile

1. Technical Expertise

  • Electrical System Design: Expertise in designing low, medium, and high-voltage electrical systems, including lighting, power distribution, electrical panels, circuit breakers, and backup power systems.
  • Load Calculations and Power Distribution: Performing load calculations, determining power requirements, and ensuring that electrical distribution systems are adequately sized.
  • Energy Efficiency and Sustainability: Knowledge of energy-efficient design practices, renewable energy systems (solar, wind), and compliance with green building standards like LEED and BREEAM.
  • Code and Regulation Knowledge: Familiarity with electrical codes (NEC, IEC, BS 7671, local codes) and industry standards to ensure designs comply with safety and regulatory requirements.
  • Short-Circuit, Fault Analysis, and Protection Systems: Proficient in conducting fault analysis, designing protection systems, and ensuring safe operation of electrical circuits and equipment.
  • Lighting Design: Expertise in designing interior and exterior lighting systems, understanding of standards for illumination levels, energy efficiency, and control systems.
  • Control Systems and Automation: Knowledge of electrical control systems, PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers), and building automation systems for operational efficiency.

2. Design Software Proficiency

  • AutoCAD and Revit: Proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit for creating electrical layouts, schematics, and 3D models of electrical systems.
  • Electrical Design Software: Familiarity with electrical design and analysis tools such as ETAP, Dialux, PowerCAD, or similar software for conducting system simulations and designing circuits.
  • BIM (Building Information Modeling): Experience using BIM tools for integrated project delivery, ensuring accurate design, coordination, and documentation.

3. Project Management and Coordination

  • Project Planning and Scheduling: Ability to manage the project lifecycle, including planning, resource allocation, and maintaining schedules to meet project deadlines.
  • Budget and Cost Management: Estimating costs, preparing budgets, and ensuring that electrical designs are cost-effective without compromising quality or safety.
  • Vendor and Supplier Coordination: Managing relationships with suppliers and manufacturers of electrical components, ensuring timely procurement and quality assurance.
  • Team Leadership and Mentorship: Leading design teams, reviewing work, and mentoring junior engineers to develop their skills and ensure the quality of work.
