The successful candidate must have experience working on building projects in the Middle East Region. Ideally, the successful candidate will have been responsible for managing the design process. In addition, the candidate will support the PM with client interaction on technical design issues.
The Design Manager will oversee the Design Brief and scope of work to ensure the design consultant(s) are delivering to the client's requirements. When necessary, the DM will manage, develop, and assist in the processing of sub consultant RFQs (bid stage or early design stage) and manage or provide technical support to the PM for technical change requests, RFIs, and instructions to the sub consultants.
Review of design consultant/contractor design proposals and end-of-design stage submissions.
Monitor, record, and action recovery plans as necessary by regularly monitoring design progress against the project programme. The Senior DM will be responsible for highlighting any Red Flag items to the Regional Director of Design Services as soon as these are identified. The DM will also be responsible for ensuring collaboration between all disciplines (internal and external) to ensure the work is fully coordinated across the project and monitoring the delivery programme.
Compile and/or review technical reports for submission.
Review all design packages prior to issuing them from the office to an external third party, whether this be the Client, Authorities, or other parties outside of Stantec. Provide final QA sign-off from a technical perspective against contracted deliverables.
Attend and lead regular design-related issues during internal and external coordination meetings and may also be requested to support the PM in weekly project meetings with the Client, especially relating to technical matters.
Be responsible for ensuring regular internal coordination meetings are attended by all key disciplines, chair these sessions, and record potential design issues that need to be addressed before the next meeting or record and monitor until these risks are designed out. Maintain an up-to-date Design Issues log and review progress against each issue periodically.
Facilitate the technical review of all design submissions and complete a review of related sub consultant submittals. Prepare review reports as necessary and manage subconsultant updates/corrections to close out.
Support PM and prepare technical responses as required to the Client/Design Sub Consultant/Contractors Request for Information, TQs, etc.
The Senior DM may also be requested to provide support to the PM in the bidding cycle and may be asked to review/prepare level of effort estimates for the required resources or provide a similar role for variation orders on live projects.
