Senior Application Specialist
Job Brief and Justification
Over the past years, the application portfolio has grown more than 100% in value. The increased investment requires additional resources to manage the technical and related operational growth while actively contributing to implementing new business application demands.
The role is a mix of ensuring the existing systems are running optimally, managing the application of relevant system patching and updating software as required, as well as implementing new systems and technologies to meet the business needs and strategy.
The role holder will be responsible for ensuring all technical information processes and procedures are effectively documented and kept up to date. The role holder will work on application security to ensure alignment with security compliance requirements.
Strategically, the role holder will be engaged in the digital transformation project to support the shift to ERP systems and accelerate business automation initiatives.
Job Responsibilities
- Build strong relationships with key business stakeholders, follow IT demand management processes, capture, document, suggest potential alternatives if needed, prioritize, and report on ongoing initiatives in alignment with IT policies and guidelines.
- Work with business partners alongside software vendors, customers, and other relevant third parties to help IT System projects.
- Responsible for the analysis, design, development, testing, and maintenance of software systems in line with agreed IT requirements and strategies.
- Escalate incidents and requests to appropriate internal personnel or external vendors when further expertise is required.
- Ensure that all software systems procedures and processes are effectively documented to agreed standards and kept up to date. This includes the production of technical and change management documentation and application business continuity requirements.
- Ensure application security compliance, regularly audit security controls, and proactively implement preventative measures.
- Evaluate technologies that will improve the IT application infrastructure with a view to recommending such improvement opportunities to the application owners.
- Liaise with external suppliers of software/hardware systems and other specialist teams within IT in the delivery of application-related projects.
- Undertake regular systems quality assurance activities to ensure systems meet internal quality standards and are operating optimally.
- Create high-quality training documentation and digital training materials, conducting training sessions to develop the skills of team members and instruct users in the use of systems.
- Train, mentor, and develop application support teams.
- Participate in digital transformation projects, especially in the ERP environment.
Knowledge and Experience
- Expert knowledge, skills, and experience in the management, support, configuration, upgrade, and enhancements of Enterprise Applications.
- Knowledge of Cloud technologies.
- Experience in robotics, IoT, and other 4.0 technologies is a plus.
- Experience working in an ITIL-driven environment and working knowledge of ITIL principles and processes.
- Knowledge of standard security principles both from a systems and network perspective.
- Experience working with senior non-technical stakeholders.
- Experience in writing system roadmaps and leading technical design.
- Experience in supplier management, licensing, and contract negotiation.
- Experience in digital transformation projects, specifically in a tier 1 ERP environment.
- Team management experience including training, performance management, and development of staff members.
- Experience of project management methodologies.
- Must have a minimum of 8 years of experience in Information Technology.
- A bachelor's degree in IT, Engineering, Computer Science, or Systems Management. A PMP or ITIL qualification is highly preferred.
- Excellent stakeholder management skills, including the ability to inspire and motivate team members.
Excellent project management skills with the ability to develop detailed strategic IT business plans that include timelines and milestones.
