Senior Accountant – Oil Trading
Our client is a leading organization in the energy/oil trading sector, dedicated to financial excellence and strategic growth. We are looking for a highly skilled Senior Accountant to manage and oversee our financial operations, ensuring compliance, accuracy, and efficiency in reporting.
Role Overview
The Senior Accountant will be responsible for financial management, treasury operations, compliance, auditing, tax responsibilities, and accounting system optimization. This role requires strong analytical skills, leadership capabilities, and the ability to drive financial strategy while ensuring compliance with regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Management
- Prepare and analyze financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements for all group entities.
- Oversee accounts payable and receivable processes.
- Reconcile account balances and bank statements.
- Develop and monitor budgets, forecasts, and financial projections.
Treasury Management
- Manage company cash flow, ensuring accurate financial records and optimizing liquidity.
- Prepare and handle treasury reports such as daily cash position reports and monthly cash projections.
- Assess cash flow positions, borrowing needs, and available funds for daily operations.
- Ensure sufficient funds for operational and capital requirements.
- Monitor and report on foreign currency exposure.
- Oversee bank service fees and resolve quality issues.
- Ensure all bank transactions are accurately recorded in the system (BC).
Compliance & Auditing
- Ensure adherence to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Assist with internal and external audits by preparing necessary documentation.
- Document and monitor internal controls to meet audit requirements.
Tax Responsibilities
- Prepare and file tax and VAT returns/claims in a timely manner.
- Ensure compliance with tax laws and regulations across multiple jurisdictions.
- Develop and implement tax planning strategies to optimize the company's tax position.
- Liaise with tax authorities and external consultants as required.
- Monitor and document transfer pricing policies for intercompany transactions.
- Assist with tax audits and respond to inquiries from tax authorities.
Systems & Process Optimization
- Review and recommend improvements to accounting systems (BC) and linked systems (Aspect).
- Utilize advanced Excel, databases, and Power BI for financial reporting and analysis.
Team Leadership
- Review entries, reports, and documentation prepared by team members for accuracy.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to junior accounting staff.

Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Professional certification (e.g., CPA, ACCA, CMA) preferred.
- 5-8+ years of experience in an accounting role, preferably in the energy/oil or commodities sector.
- Experience working with ERP systems (BC, Aspect) and financial reporting tools.
- Strong knowledge of tax regulations and compliance standards in the UAE and international jurisdictions.
