JOB SUMMARY:
The Rigger will install machinery and equipment according to layout plans, blueprints, and other drawings in industrial establishments.
Job Description:
- Reads blueprints and schematic drawings to determine work procedures.
- Dismantles machines, using hammers, wrenches, crowbars, and other hand tools.
- Moves machinery and equipment, using hoists, dollies, rollers, forklifts, and trucks.
- Assembles and installs machinery and heavy equipment.
- Aligns machines and equipment, using hoists, jacks, hand tools, squares, rules, micrometers, and plumb bobs.
- Assembles machines and bolts, welds, rivets, or otherwise fastens them to the foundation or other structures, using hand tools and power tools.
- Selects cables, ropes, pulleys, winches, blocks, and sheaves, according to weight and size of load to be moved.
- Attaches pulley and blocks to fixed overhead structures, such as beams, ceilings, and gin pole booms, with bolts and clamps.
- Attaches load with grappling devices, such as loops, wires, ropes, and chains, to crane hook.
- Sets up, braces, and rigs hoisting equipment, using hand tools and power wrenches.
- May direct workers engaged in hoisting of machinery and heavy equipment operations.
- Works within precise limits or standards of accuracy follow instructions and read blueprints.
- Looks at flat drawings or pictures and visualizes how they would look as solid objects.
- Works at heights without fear.
- Uses logical step-by-step procedures in work.
- Plans work and solves problems.
- Makes decisions based on measurable information.
- Performs a variety of duties which may change often, and operates machinery.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
The position is out in the field on customer job sites. This job is physically demanding and requires heavy lifting and work with heavy machinery. Workers must be able to:
- Coordinate eye-hand movements.
- Use hands and fingers fully.
- Reach for, manipulate, and feel objects.
- Stoop, kneel, crouch, and/or crawl.
- Climb and maintain body balance on ladders, scaffolding, or high structures.
- See and hear well (either naturally or with correction).
- Lift and carry objects weighing up to 70 pounds.
