Rigger

JOB SUMMARY:

The Rigger will install machinery and equipment according to layout plans, blueprints, and other drawings in industrial establishments.

Job Description:

1. Reads blueprints and schematic drawings to determine work procedures.
2. Dismantles machines, using hammers, wrenches, crowbars, and other hand tools.
3. Moves machinery and equipment, using hoists, dollies, rollers, forklifts, and trucks.
4. Assembles and installs machinery and heavy equipment.
5. Aligns machines and equipment, using hoists, jacks, hand tools, squares, rules, micrometers, and plumb bobs.
6. Assembles machines and bolts, welds, rivets, or otherwise fastens them to the foundation or other structures, using hand tools and power tools.
7. Selects cables, ropes, pulleys, winches, blocks, and sheaves, according to weight and size of load to be moved.
8. Attaches pulley and blocks to fixed overhead structures, such as beams, ceilings, and gin pole booms, with bolts and clamps.
9. Attaches load with grappling devices, such as loops, wires, ropes, and chains, to crane hook.
10. Sets up, braces, and rigs hoisting equipment, using hand tools and power wrenches.
11. May direct workers engaged in hoisting of machinery and heavy equipment operations.
12. Works within precise limits or standards of accuracy follow instructions and read blueprints.
13. Looks at flat drawings or pictures and visualizes how they would look as solid objects.
14. Works at heights without fear.
15. Uses logical step-by-step procedures in work.
16. Plans work and solves problems.
17. Makes decisions based on measurable information.
18. Performs a variety of duties which may change often, and operates machinery.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:

The position is out in the field on customer job sites. This job is physically demanding and requires heavy lifting and work with heavy machinery. Workers must be able to:

1. Coordinate eye-hand movements.
2. Use hands and fingers fully.
3. Reach for, manipulate, and feel objects.
4. Stoop, kneel, crouch, and/or crawl.
5. Climb and maintain body balance on ladders, scaffolding, or high structures.
6. See and hear well (either naturally or with correction).
7. Lift and carry objects weighing up to 70 pounds.
