Resident Mechanical Engineer

About The Role

Mott MacDonald requires a site-based Mechanical Engineer with good experience in design and construction supervision of water fountains and landscaping work. The role includes support for shop drawing endorsements, material submittal review, method statement reviews, as-built drawing review, and testing and commissioning review for a major Land Development & Civil Infrastructure project in UAE.

Key Responsibilities and Duties include, but are not limited to:

• Oversee all construction activities pertaining to mechanical systems including water fountains, district cooling, ventilation and air conditioning, fire and life safety systems (smoke control/staircase pressurisation), heat recovery, and BACS.
• Shop drawing endorsement, material submittal review, method statement reviews, as-built drawing review, and testing and commissioning review.
• Design capability required to review the impact of any field change requests (assessment of whether these are minor or major) and coordinating with internal design to complete any redesign deemed necessary.
• Coordinate with all disciplines and external stakeholders to ensure the layout of MEP services is feasible.
• Prepare or supervise the preparation of drawings for plant general arrangements and P&IDs and manage the production of documentation such as feasibility reports, calculations, specifications, plant schedules, tenders, schedule of prices, engineer's estimates, and factory and site acceptance documents.
• Represent the company in technical meetings with clients, supervise the work of more junior staff, and provide technical and professional guidance to assist their development.
• Ensure the development of required documentation for the review process to include comments, recommendations, and corrective action plans for the prime contractor as appropriate.
• Responsible for supervising, directing, and coordinating the inspection team.
• Ensure that responses are complete and in compliance with the contract documents. Where problems are found, work with the team leader to resolve.
• Attend progress review meetings and coordination meetings to assist the Project Lead/Senior Engineer in resolving any site issues such as discrepancies in project drawings.
• Monitor health and safety of the construction works and report on the same. If required, stop the construction works if unsafe practices are being followed.
• Fully aware of the authorities' requirements and able to highlight the same on the submittals, shop drawings, etc.
• Site experience in basic design requirements, estimation, installation, and all site activities.
• Familiar with the necessary engineering methodologies as well as the corresponding equipment, materials, consumables, tools, and manpower allocations related to the discipline of expertise.

Candidate Specifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from an internationally accredited university.
• Experience in a similar role with prior experience of working on water fountains, landscaping, residential developments, and large land development projects.
• Demonstrable experience and knowledge of mechanical engineering services including plumbing, fountains, HVAC, public health, fire, and life safety.
