Serving a global customer base including the Motorsports, Defense, Automotive, and Powersports industries, they are defining the future of advanced vehicles through developments in mobility, survivability, occupant protection, electronics, and the application of autonomous systems.

PRIMARY CANDIDATE CHARACTERISTICS:

In order to maintain competitive advantage in this fast-paced position, the fundamental candidate characteristics are as follows:

  1. Inherently able to understand the concept of a project or product, and able to analyze and perform the safety activities to guaranteed compliance to the relevant safety standard.
  2. Proficient at developing an ever-changing tool chain and for the execution of the functional safety plan.

POSITION OVERVIEW:

Technical Specialists - responsible for developing deep domain expertise and capability that creates a competitive advantage for our customers and the company. A TS will develop technology and processes through R&D and application on projects to production.

Develop technology and process excellence as related to functional safety (people, process, and tools).

BD and Proposal Development supporting the development of a proposal for a project's functional safety plan.

Support the execution and performance of projects by providing domain expertise, guidance, and mentoring.

Develop domain functional safety best practices and standards across all company projects, and ensure that they are in compliance with current industry standards (e.g. ISO 26262 and MIL STD 882 E).

Development of material for education and training purposes, both for external customers and internal employees.

Coordinate the functional safety activities of the projects and interface with the project functional safety engineers.

RESPONSIBILITIES - TYPICAL PROJECT:

The Technical Specialist - Functional Safety supports a project team to achieve compliance of functional safety systems (ISO 26262, MIL STD 882E). The main objectives include:

  1. Review/perform a Vehicle/System Functional Safety analysis.
  2. Identification and analysis of system function hazards and/or failures of system function concepts, using STPA, HAZOP, and/or other approaches.
  3. Develop requirements driven by functional safety concepts.
  4. Interface with the Software/Controls Functional Safety Engineer as required.
  5. Deriving/reviewing Technical Safety Concept and Requirement.
  6. Performing the vehicle/system level FTA and FMEDA.
  7. Deriving/reviewing Hardware and Software Safety Concepts.
  8. Perform an ASIL Decomposition.
  9. Present project state to management.

ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

Knowledge and expertise in functional safety systems (ISO 26262, MIL STD 882 E) and associated software, feature development, and architecture, with understanding of industry standards to grow current team capabilities.

Background in embedded controls and software development process, systems safety, and safety critical software.

Experience using engineering tool chains.

Knowledge of requirements tools like JAMA, PTC RV&S/Integrity, and analysis tool like ANSYS Medini.

Strong communication, presentation and customer service skills able to translate strategic vision to operational and tactical plans.

DESIRED EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:

BS or MS Engineering degree.

10+ years of applicable industry experience.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Some travel may be required depending on the program.
