The postdoc will be responsible for conducting high-quality research support in a joint KU-UAEU project on developing advanced-level perovskite devices for solar cell applications. He/she will perform various research duties related to the day-to-day experiments using electron microscopy and perovskite materials-related computational calculations. Electron microscopy experiments will probe the defects in passivated perovskite materials and devices. Whereas computational calculations will include simulating electron microscopy data and machine learning (ML) based calculations to investigate the stability and passivation of defects in perovskite materials. The duties may include equipment management and maintenance of equipment and facilities in the electron microscopy research group. The lab's compliance with university regulations (EHS), storekeeping functions, and the proper and safe use of equipment and materials must also be complied with.

Position Requirements

1. Working knowledge of different advanced characterization equipment such as aberration-corrected TEM, STEM, and high-resolution EELS.
2. Knowledge of characterizing nanomaterials (plasmonic materials) with advanced HRSTEM and HREELS.
3. Solid knowledge of TEM electron optics and ability to align the electron microscopes and parts (Cs correctors, GIF, Monochromator) at different primary beam energies.
4. Knowledge of the applications of 2D materials and their physics.
5. Willing to contribute to grant writing, drafting patents, and attending conferences.
6. Train new lab personnel on lab methods, safety protocols, and standard operating procedures.
7. Adhere to the University's information security and confidentiality policies and procedures and report breaches or other security risks accordingly.
8. Perform any other tasks assigned by the Line Manager.

Desired Candidate Profile

1. Ph.D. from a reputable university in Physics, Materials Science, Chemistry, or related discipline.
2. Experience writing scientific papers for 10+ years after the PhD degree.
3. A willingness to contribute to a collaborative and supportive team culture.
4. Excellent English language communication skills (verbal and written).
5. Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
6. The proven ability to work on multiple tasks with competing demands and deadlines.
7. Ability to train and mentor students and support fellow researchers.
8. Highly developed reasoning and problem-solving skills.

Desired Criteria

1. Ph.D. gained from a top 500 QS or THE ranked University.
2. High-impact first-author publications in the top 25% of journals in the relevant field.
