Job description

What you will do:

The Refrigeration Design Engineer supports the iREF Middle East And Africa Design and Engineering team by assisting with pre and post sales activities related to design supply and build Industrial Refrigeration Systems and iREF equipment project opportunities.

Presales activities include but are not limited to: reviewing tender documentation provided by customer or consultant, conducting site surveys, participating in technical meetings with customer or consultant, developing initial technical calculations and system concept design, selection of Industrial Refrigeration equipment, estimation cost of all components for iREF System, preparing cost book quotation text as well as process flow diagrams. This role will receive direction and coaching support from Regional Engineering Manager and sales leadership on presale needs and expectations.

Post sales activities include ensuring projects are profitable, accurate, on time, within the scope of the contract, and in alignment with customer expectations. The Refrigeration Design Engineer will develop and review detailed engineering solutions and documentation, guide CAD Engineers, prepare technical submittals to communicate design configuration, operating and installation requirements to customers, consultants, Johnson Controls operation team, and necessary subcontractors. This role includes reviewing technical documentation and drawings produced internally and by our suppliers, developing design briefs, and providing technical support during startup and commissioning troubleshooting.

The Refrigeration Design Engineer, besides presales and post sales support, will be involved in technical support and assistance of the iREF MEA AfterMarket team in projects related to retrofit or upgrade of existing refrigeration systems.

Works with assigned sales and operation team to maintain an effective balance between customer satisfaction and project financial results when performing presales and/or post sales duties.

How you will do it:

  • Supports detailed estimating of projects at presales activities. Together with Sales Managers presenting it to clients.
  • Technically leading presales activities from reviewing tender documents to securing the project.
  • Assist as needed in developing the customer's business case for conceptual solutions.
  • Provides technical support selections and estimating support to Sales managers related to the new project or AfterMarket retrofit projects at presales phase.
  • Provides input to the sales management organization for opportunity prioritization & qualification.
  • Prepares customer proposals, quote letters for assigned projects, cost book estimates, timeframe schedules, process flow diagrams, and initial layouts together with assigned CAD engineer.
  • Conduct handover meetings to the project management team when the project is secured.
  • Proactively support value-added sales.
  • Validates assumptions made during the proposal and presales phase. Builds a detailed cost estimate and scope of work for assigned projects in conjunction with sales. Assists in reviewing final proposals and other customer communication documents, as well as assists with any design work required.
  • Secures best available pricing for the selected equipment in cooperation with team members from the Supply Chain Department.
  • Perform proactive risk assessments for projects.
  • Tracks project costs of all assigned projects, looking for ways to optimize the design and achieve cost optimization.
  • Performs site surveys in existing buildings to inspect overall operation of control systems and unique job considerations for construction.
  • Effectively communicates project engineering progress to all management team members that have a need to know.
  • Completes the detailed design and engineering works during the process.
  • Reviews all technical design documentation before issuing to customers and operation team.
  • Conducts all refrigeration-related calculations like heat load calculations, pipe sizes, etc.
  • Responsible for generating technical content Purchase Orders for all material and equipment selected, working very closely with all parties (operation manager, procurement managers, suppliers).
  • In addition to the above-mentioned tasks, other activities and responsibilities may be individually defined.

What we look for:

Required

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology or equivalent through experience.
  • Five years experience in designing industrial refrigeration systems or large complex commercial refrigeration systems.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office suite (with emphasis on Word, Excel, and Visio) and basic Windows operating system environment.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated ability to simultaneously manage a large and diverse number of projects with professionalism, cooperation, and persistence.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills and attention to detail.
