Job description

The Government Relations and Public Policy team covers a wide range of responsibilities: government affairs and government relations; policy and issue area expertise; risk and crisis management and mitigation; outreach, coalitions, and partnerships. The mission of the team is to earn trust and prevent, manage, and mitigate political, legislative, and regulatory threats to TikTok.

Responsibilities:

  1. Build and maintain relationships with Government, policymakers, and key opinion leaders.
  2. Execute strategies for engaging with policymakers around issues important to TikTok and our community of creators.
  3. Identify, monitor, and analyze relevant policy trends and legislative proposals.
  4. Articulate policy positions in briefing papers, consultation responses, and internal policy meetings.
  5. Collaborate closely with internal cross-functional teams, including PR, Legal, Product, and Engineering, to align engagement efforts with TikTok’s broader strategic objectives.
  6. Establish and maintain meaningful relationships and deliver innovative projects with industry associations, academia, and NGOs and drive long-term impact on the sustainability efforts of the company.
  7. Represent the company at external events to identify and unlock opportunities, build networks, and establish TikTok as the most trusted brand.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Direct experience in Public Policy and/or Government Relations and Advocacy work.
  2. Knowledge of the legislative process and tech policy.
  3. Language proficiency: Business proficiency in writing, reading, and speaking in English & Nepali is desired based on regional requirements.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Advanced degree in Political Science, International Affairs, Government, Public Affairs, related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  2. Previous experience working at a global technology company or international organization.
  3. Previous advocacy experience, including the ability to analyze and communicate business implications of public policy.
  4. Outstanding writing skills and ability to distill complex policy issues into simple explanations and compelling messages.
  5. Ability to work well as part of a team and exercise sound judgment and discretion.
  6. Strong prioritization and multi-tasking skills.
