Technical Architects at Discover develop technology strategies and future state architectures that enable value streams and product teams to deliver industry differentiating solutions. We combine deep technical domain understanding with a broad view of organizational concerns including business acumen, security, compliance, and product delivery. Actively manages and escalates risk and customer-impacting issues within the day-to-day role to management.

Responsibilities

1. Designs with PCI / regulatory requirements within their technology and product space
2. Delivers architectures that balance risk, security and operational excellence
3. Serves as a thought leader within their domain or product
4. Keeps abreast of industry changes across their product family. Assesses relative merits of technology maturity against Discover's needs
5. Demonstrates deep understanding of technical domain (e.g., computer, network cloud, API, frameworks, etc.)
6. Creates big-picture design view of product portfolio
7. Guides evaluation of current technology and leads evaluation of new technologies using existing standards and frameworks

Minimum Qualifications

At a minimum, here’s what we need from you:

1. Bachelors – Computer Science or related
2. 8+ Years – Software Development, Software Engineering, Technical Architecture or related
3. Internal applicants only: technical proficiency rating of proficient on the Dreyfus architecture scale

Preferred Qualifications

Bonus Points If You Have:

1. Hands-on practical experience delivering system design, application development, and operational stability.
2. Ability to evaluate current and emerging technologies to select or recommend the best solutions for the future state architecture
3. Strong experience in cloud architecture, design, and cost optimization/blueprints.
4. Experience working as a Cloud Architect
5. Kafka background (hosting/maintaining)
6. Grasp of Non-Functional Requirements
7. SRE background is advantageous
