Practical Nurse (with experience in Ambulatory)

The Practical Nurse provides appropriate patient care according to established care plans under the supervision of Registered Nurses to the Nursing Scope of Practice. Adheres to and promotes the professional Nurses Code of Conduct for Abu Dhabi. The Practical Nurse is not licensed for independent practice and remains responsible and accountable for his/her own actions. Understands, supports and promotes the mission, vision and values of the organization.

Develop and implement plan of care under the supervision of Nurse Manager and Staff Nurse, and collaborate with other health care professionals.

PRIMARY JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

PATIENT CARE

  1. Completes timely patient admission and ongoing assessments, plans and updates plan of care based on individual patient needs.
  2. Provides direct care and evaluates outcomes, incorporating principles of family-centered care.
  3. Monitors and documents patients' condition and effectiveness of care and interventions.
  4. Assesses educational needs of patients and significant others considering cultural needs and other special concerns.

CLINICAL / PROFESSIONAL KNOWLEDGE

  1. Use the knowledge of one's own role and the roles of other professions to appropriately assess and address the health care needs of the patients and populations served.
  2. Demonstrates commitment to providing evidence-based practice care by adhering to protocols for the care of patient populations in which assigned, reporting needed changes in practice supported by evidence, and participating in evaluating patient outcomes utilizing evidence.
  3. Maintains confidentiality regarding patient and family information by promoting professional interdisciplinary communication.
  4. Respects Patient Rights and demonstrates behaviors of a Patients First Philosophy.
  5. Incorporates the CCAD Professional Practice model and patient safety principles into clinical practice.
  6. Reports errors and near-misses.

  1. Play significant role within the caregiver team in the delivery of patient care collaborating with other disciplines to facilitate achievement of planned and expected outcomes.
  2. Apply relationship-building values and the principles of team dynamics to perform effectively in different team roles to plan and deliver patient/population-centered care that is safe, timely, efficient, effective, and equitable.
  3. Maintains confidentiality with patients and families and adheres to Mubadala Code of Conduct.
  4. Demonstrates active participation in resource stewardship.
  5. Provides feedback on strategies to decrease costs, adherence to safe staffing models, and use of high-cost resources.

  2. Communicate with patients, families, communities, and other health professionals in a responsive and responsible manner that supports a team approach to maintaining health and treatment of disease.
  3. Communicates with patients, families, visitors, and vendors in a courteous, helpful manner, endeavoring to resolve issues at the unit/department level.
  4. Communicates patient clinical information clearly and accurately, documenting pertinent information in medical record and ensuring complete documentation of patient care.
  5. Engages patient and family in hand-off of clinical information and planning daily plan of care as appropriate.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

Typical physical demands include: a high degree of manual dexterity to sufficiently perform computer functions on a keyboard, produce materials on a PC and operate basic office equipment, normal or corrected vision and hearing, exposure to communicable disease or body fluids, extensive standing and walking, working under stressful conditions and some irregular hours, handling and lifting patients, mobility sufficient to visit with departments or employees throughout CCAD and lift up to 50 lbs.

QUALIFICATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

ESSENTIAL

  1. Education: Diploma in Nursing or equivalent qualification is required. Minimum three (3) year curriculum in Nursing from an accredited program is required.
  2. Experience: Minimum of two (2) years post-graduate experience in an acute care setting is required.
  3. Certification and Licensure: Valid and current national license is required. BLS is required from AHA or an equivalent organization, or must be obtained within 3 months of employment. ACLS, PALS relevant to area of specialty is required, from AHA or an equivalent organization; or must obtain within 6 months of employment.
  4. Job Specific Skills and Abilities: Strong oral and written communication skills, proficiency with Microsoft Office suite, strong interpersonal skills, ability to effectively manage multiple responsibilities simultaneously, fluency in written and spoken English, experience with electronic medical record is strongly preferred, ability to speak and write in Arabic is preferred.
