The Planning Engineer is responsible for developing monitoring and updating project schedules for steel fabrication manufacturing and construction projects. They will collaborate with project managers, production teams, and procurement departments to ensure timely completion of projects within the budget and to the highest standards. The role involves creating detailed plans, tracking progress, identifying potential delays, and implementing solutions to ensure project milestones are met.
Develop, maintain, and update comprehensive project schedules for steel fabrication and construction projects. Utilize project planning software (e.g. Primavera P6, MS Project) to create detailed timelines and work breakdown structures (WBS). Coordinate with various departments (design, procurement, production) to ensure accurate project milestones and deliverables. Ensure that all project schedules align with the contract's scope, specifications, and key performance indicators (KPIs).
Assess and allocate resources, including labor, materials, and equipment, to meet project requirements. Work closely with the production and procurement teams to ensure resource availability and avoid delays. Monitor labor and material usage, providing forecasts and updates to the project team.
Track and report project progress against the schedule, ensuring key milestones are achieved. Update the project schedule regularly and communicate any deviations to the project team and stakeholders. Analyze critical path activities and float values to identify potential risks or delays. Implement recovery plans to mitigate the impact of delays and keep the project on track.
Assist in developing project budgets focusing on resource costs and timeframes. Monitor project costs against the approved budget and highlight any discrepancies. Provide cost-related reports to management and offer suggestions for improving cost efficiency.
Identify risks related to project timelines, materials availability, and resource constraints. Develop contingency plans and take proactive measures to address potential issues. Collaborate with the project team to resolve onsite challenges that may affect the schedule.
Work closely with project managers, site engineers, production teams, and clients to ensure clear communication of project progress. Attend regular project meetings and provide updates on the status of scheduling, resource management, and potential risks. Liaise with contractors and suppliers to ensure timely delivery of materials and services.
Ensure that all planning processes comply with the company’s standards, client specifications, and relevant industry codes. Support quality control teams by integrating quality milestones into the project schedule. Document and report any nonconformities or deviations from the project plan.
Prepare regular progress reports, including schedule updates, resource reports, and risk assessments for senior management and clients. Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of project schedules, milestones, and resource allocations. Provide documentation and feedback on lessons learned at the end of each project.
