Job Description

Job Purpose

The purpose of the role of the Planning Engineer is to understand the scope of a project, review drawings, BOQ and specifications to prepare a Programme of works using project management tools such as Primavera & MSP. The planner monitors the progress of live projects and provides Programme updates throughout the project life cycle, validating delays and EOT claims.

Operational Responsibilities

1. Prepare project tender programs in Primavera P6 based on the tender requirements to ensure KPS is able to submit a competitive tender.
2. Prepare detailed construction programs which take into account all major and minor construction activities and trades, ensuring all site activities are accounted for.
3. Update live project programs in Primavera P6 in conjunction with the project manager ensuring these are aligned with works executed on site.
4. Co-ordinate with KPS internal departments, design, construction, commercial, client services, ensuring the necessary project information is reflected throughout the project program.
5. Review project resource allocation and produce manpower histograms prior to mobilization to ensure the project team have a clear guide in terms of manpower.
6. Revise the project plan in line with changes and deviations, ensuring that these changes are communicated to all relevant parties.
7. Prepare lookahead plan for the execution team for monitoring the progress.
8. Arrange planning workshop meetings to discuss and assist internal and external parties to close planning issues.
9. Assess potential time impact of variations and extension of time claims, and where possible offer up recommendations for possible acceleration or mitigation measures.

1. Degree educated in civil engineering, construction management or related field.
2. 5 years experience in the same or similar role.
3. Working knowledge of Primavera P6.
4. Working knowledge of building project detailed fit-out/construction programs.
5. Demonstrated ability to prepare manpower histograms.
6. Demonstrated ability to use Microsoft Office with emphasis on Excel.
7. Strong planning and organization skills.
8. Demonstrated attention to details and quality.
9. Demonstrated initiative and commitment to achieve.
10. Demonstrated communication skills, both written and oral.
11. Demonstrated interpersonal ability.
12. Demonstrated influence and negotiation skills.

1. Working within the construction industry; GCC experience advantageous.
2. Working knowledge of preparing project tendering programs.
