Responsibilities:

  1. Assist the academy in achieving its overall vision and strategic intentions and contribute to the achievement of relevant targets as set out in the academy’s improvement plan and self-evaluation form.
  2. Comply with regulations about health and safety at work legislation and adhere to academy policies relating to safe working practices and equal opportunities regulations.
  3. Comply with the academy’s Performance Management Policy, ensuring challenging annual targets are set and fulfilling the role of performance management reviewer if directed to do so by the Principal.
  4. Engage in annual training linked to child protection, safeguarding, and health and safety, together with all training deemed appropriate for academy improvement or performance management.
  5. Comply with the academy’s staff dress code at all times, including the wearing of a photo ID/lanyard.
  6. Comply with the academy’s computer Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) at all times.
  7. Attend all staff briefings.
  8. Sign out and sign in at the relevant academy reception if off-site at any point during the normal working day.

Areas of Responsibility and Key Tasks Planning, Preparation, Teaching and Lesson Management:

  1. Creating a climate that is conducive to outstanding Learning and Teaching.
  2. Identifying clear teaching objectives and specifying how they will be taught and assessed.
  3. Setting tasks which challenge students and ensure high levels of interest.
  4. Setting appropriate and demanding expectations.
  5. Setting clear targets, building on prior attainment.
  6. Identifying SEN or very able students.
  7. Providing clear structures for lessons, maintaining pace, motivation, and challenge.
  8. Making effective use of assessment and ensuring coverage of programs of study.
  9. Making effective use of performance data and key indicators to inform planning and, therefore, deliver differentiated learning – matched to the need.
  10. Ensuring effective teaching and the best use of available time.
  11. Maintaining an effective learning environment by the academy's procedures and encouraging good practice about punctuality, behavior, standards of work, and homework.
  12. Ensuring students acquire and consolidate knowledge, skills, and understanding appropriate to the subject taught.
  13. Ensuring the effective and efficient deployment of classroom support.

Using a variety of teaching methods to:

  1. Match approach to content, structure information, present a set of key ideas, and use appropriate vocabulary.
  2. Use effective questioning, listen carefully to students, give attention to errors and misconceptions.
  3. Select appropriate learning resources and develop study skills through the library, I.C.T., and other learning technologies.

Monitoring, Assessment, Recording, Reporting:

  1. Assess how well learning objectives have been achieved and use them to improve specific aspects of teaching.
  2. Mark and monitor students' work and set targets for progress.
  3. Using performance data to inform planning and therefore ensuring the Learning and Teaching continue to ‘add value.
  4. Assess and record students' progress systematically and keep records to check work is understood and completed, monitor strengths and areas for development, inform planning, and recognize the level at which the student is achieving.
  5. Assess students as requested by examination bodies, departmental and academy procedures.
  6. Prepare and present informative reports to parents.

Curriculum Development:

  1. Take part in the subject or aspects of the academy's work and develop plans that identify clear targets and success criteria for its development and/or maintenance.
  2. Contribute to the whole academy's visioning activities.

Other Professional Requirements:

  1. Have a working knowledge of teachers' professional duties and legal liabilities.
  2. Operate at all times within the stated policies and practices of the academy.
  3. Know subject(s) or specialism(s) to enable effective teaching.
  4. Establish effective working relationships and set an outstanding example through their presentation and personal and professional conduct.
  5. Endeavour to give every child the opportunity to reach their potential and meet high expectations.
  6. Co-operate with other staff to ensure a sharing and effective usage of resources to the benefit of the academy, department, and students.
  7. Contribute to the corporate life of the academy through effective participation in meetings and management systems necessary to coordinate the leadership and management of the academy.
  8. Take part in marketing and liaison activities such as Open evenings/afternoons, Parent Teacher Consultations, and events with partner academy.
  9. Take responsibility for own professional development and duties about academy policies and practices.
  10. Liaise effectively with parents.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor's degree in Education or other relevant field with a teaching qualification.

Minimum Experience:

  1. Minimum of 2 years experience in teaching specialist subjects up to GCSE and A Level desirable but not essential.

Job Specific Knowledge & Skills:

  1. Ability to deliver curriculum across all primary and secondary year groups.
  2. Ability to teach a broad range of sports and activities.
  3. Contribute to the extensive extra-curricular sporting provision (including some weekends).
  4. Experience delivering examination PE (preferably EDEXCEL).
  5. Ability to work well as part of a large and dynamic team.
  6. Contribute to the development of curriculum design and schemes of work for the department.
  7. Be an effective communicator with staff, students and parents.
  8. Hardworking, Committed, Empathetic, Passionate and Pupil-Centred.
  9. Previous experience working with students for whom English is not their first language.
  10. Passion for teaching and commitment to educating the whole child.
  11. A high level of professionalism and consideration for the well-being of children.
  12. Recent and consistent involvement in extra-curricular activities.
  13. Respect for all members of a school community, irrespective of position, gender, age and ethnic background.
  14. A positive and solution-focused attitude to working life.
  15. A clean, enhanced Disclosure and Barring Services check or police check.
