PhD Position in Mechanical Engineering

The Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (MAE) Department at United Arab Emirates University (UAEU) invites applications for a full-time faculty position. Qualified candidates at all levels will be considered at a rank commensurate with academic accomplishments. We seek an exceptional scholar to build a reputable independent research program in the MAE department. Areas of interest include but are not limited to, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Robotics & Intelligent Systems (RIS), Advanced Manufacturing & Materials (AMM), Energy & Sustainability (ENS), and other emerging areas.

In AI, we are seeking an established person or a person with strong potential to advance fundamental and applied research in any areas of interest to MAE. In RIS, we are particularly interested in AI-Enabled Robotics and Human-Machine Collaborations, Swarm Robotics and Autonomous Navigation, and Smart Sensors, Control, and Mechatronics. In AMM, we are particularly interested in AI-Driven Digital Twin Manufacturing, Additive Manufacturing (3D/4D Printing) and Sustainable Smart Factories. In ENS, we are seeking candidates in Clean Energy Systems (Hydrogen, AI-Optimized Solar, Waste-to-Energy), AI-Driven Innovative Sustainable Cooling, and Novel Transport phenomena for Energy Applications. Exceptional candidates from other areas will also be considered.

The successful candidate will develop and lead a sustainable, innovative, independent research program, publish impactful research in top-ranked, field-related refereed journals, and build a reputation nationally and internationally to elevate UAEU’s international reputation. The successful candidate will have a strong commitment to undergraduate and graduate teaching and education, including but not limited to, developing courses to enhance our undergraduate and graduate programs, mentoring students, and advising undergraduate students. Successful candidates will have access to advanced laboratory facilities, opportunities for internal research funding, and collaboration with Centers of Excellence. 4. Teaching Statement (up to 2 pages): Detailing your philosophy, past experience, and teaching plans.

Minimum Requirements

Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering or a closely related field from an internationally recognized university at the time of appointment or shortly thereafter. Research track record commensurate with the rank applied for. The ability to teach undergraduate and graduate courses is a must.

Preferred Qualifications

B.Sc./B.Eng. degree in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering preferred. Industrial and professional experience is a plus.
