Job Summary

Operating room technologists oversee pivotal duties from preparation to the conclusion of surgical procedures, making them the backbone of the surgical team. They set up the operating room, sterilize and provide surgical instruments, assist during procedures, and ensure patient safety and comfort. Below is a list of common responsibilities for an operating room technician:

1. Assist in preparing the room for surgery
2. Responsible for having surgical equipment, and other equipment ready for the operation
3. To assist doctors by handing them needed instruments during surgery and for the supply of equipment and readiness of equipment and supply of drugs to Anesthetist
4. Transferring patient after operations to the recovery room and ensure safe transfer of the patient from the operating room to ward or another unit
5. Assist anesthesia providers using aseptic or sterile technique with non-invasive and invasive patient procedures including peripheral and/or central intravenous and/or arterial line placement
6. Assist anesthesia providers with physiological monitoring of the patient, notifying the anesthesia providers of abnormal changes in vital signs and/or physical appearance of the patient
7. Clean anesthesia machine, monitors, and equipment following procedures established by infection control
8. Assist with patient laboratory tests and results including but not limited to ABG's, ACTs, and other point of care tests
9. Obtain blood products and pharmaceuticals assisting with preparation and delivery
10. Maintain immediate availability to assist in routine and emergency procedures

Qualifications

Certification and/or training in operating room technology or its equivalent, along with successful completion of an accredited surgical technologist course. Additionally, proficiency in medical terminology, physiology, and sterilization methods is required. Current license in the country of origin and with DOH license to practice in Abu Dhabi. Minimum 2 years OT experience in the main operating room or a similar setting is preferred. Excellent command of oral and written English. Arabic language advantageous/desirable but not essential.
