Full job description

An Assistant Nurse, often referred to as a Nurse Assistant, Nursing Assistant, or Nursing Aide, provides support to registered nurses (RNs) and other healthcare professionals in hospitals, clinics, and long-term care facilities. They assist in delivering basic patient care and ensuring comfort and safety.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Assist patients with daily activities such as bathing, dressing, grooming, eating, and mobility.
2. Monitor and record patients' vital signs (temperature, blood pressure, pulse, respiration).
3. Help patients move around, transfer them between beds and wheelchairs, or assist with repositioning to prevent pressure sores.
4. Provide emotional support and comfort to patients and their families.
5. Medical Assistance:
6. Assist nurses with administering medications and treatments (under supervision).
7. Take specimens (urine, blood, etc.) as required and send them for lab analysis.
8. Help in wound care, such as cleaning wounds or applying bandages.
9. Assist with medical equipment, such as monitoring devices, oxygen tanks, or catheters.
10. Monitoring and Documentation:
11. Observe patients for any changes in condition and report to the nursing staff.
12. Maintain patient records, documenting any changes in health status or treatment.
13. Keep track of patients' food and liquid intake, output, and overall health condition.
14. Cleaning and Hygiene:
15. Maintain patient rooms, ensuring they are clean, safe, and comfortable.
16. Help with maintaining proper hygiene and cleanliness of patients and their environments.
17. Ensure the proper disposal of medical waste and hazardous materials following protocols.
18. Communication:
19. Act as a liaison between patients, families, and medical staff, communicating needs or concerns.
20. Provide patients and families with information about procedures or daily care routines.
21. Administrative Tasks:
22. Assist with inventory management, including ensuring that medical supplies and equipment are stocked and ready.
23. Help with the admission and discharge process of patients by assisting in paperwork and ensuring proper setup of patient rooms.

Skills & Qualifications:

1. High school diploma or equivalent (required).
2. Completion of a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) training program, which typically includes clinical practice.
3. CPR and first aid certifications.
4. Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
5. Ability to follow detailed instructions and work in a team environment.
6. Patience and empathy in dealing with patients' needs.
7. May require working in shifts (including nights, weekends, and holidays).
