A Network Engineer is responsible for managing and securing the organization's network infrastructure. Key tasks include the design, implementation, and maintenance of both local and wide area networks (LAN/WAN), and ensuring optimal network performance. The role involves troubleshooting network issues, managing hardware like routers, switches, and firewalls, and implementing security measures to protect against vulnerabilities. The position usually requires experience with various network technologies, security products (such as Cisco and Fortinet), and strong troubleshooting skills.
Core Responsibilities:
Design and Implementation: Planning, configuring, and installing network hardware and software to ensure the network meets the business requirements. This includes setting up firewalls, routers, switches, and other network components.
Network Maintenance: Monitoring the performance of LAN/WAN, VPNs, On-prem & cloud services, ensuring the network is running efficiently and resolving any issues that arise.
Security Management: Implementing and managing network security protocols, particularly with firewalls (e.g., Fortinet, Cisco), to protect against security threats and ensure compliance with corporate policies.
Troubleshooting and Support: Addressing network problems, such as connectivity issues or system failures, and providing technical support for escalated issues from other IT teams or departments.
Documentation and Compliance: Maintaining detailed documentation of the network infrastructure, policies, and procedures to support fault tolerance, capacity planning, and compliance with industry standards.
Network Optimization: Continually analyzing network performance, identifying opportunities for improvement, and making adjustments to optimize performance.
Collaboration: Working with other IT departments and teams to ensure cohesive operation across different platforms and systems.
Self-Management:
Defines performance goals at the start of the year in discussion with the reporting manager and ensures that the goals are achieved during the course of the year.
Takes ownership of his/her learning agenda by identifying development needs in consultation with the manager and agreeing on the individual development plan which goes beyond just training and development.
Keeps abreast of professional developments, new techniques, and current issues through continued education and professional growth.
Educational Qualifications and Certificates:
Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Computer Science/Information Technology/Computer Engineering discipline or equivalent.
Certification in Information Technology Service Management (ITSM) / Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL).
Requisite certification from Cisco, Fortinet.
Cisco CCNA, CCNP certification preferred.
Experience:
A minimum of 6 - 8 years of relevant experience with at least 6 years in administration of IT Networks for a large retail organization.
Skills:
Written and spoken English is essential, but Arabic is preferred.
