(Sub) Section: Section Marine Operations
Performance Areas of the (Sub) Section:
- Ensuring the safe, efficient, reliable, and environmentally responsible delivery of marine services in the Port.
Power of Decision:
- The Nautical Superintendent is responsible for the performance areas of the Nautical Superintendent.
- Reports to the Head of Section Marine Operations.
Performance Areas of the Function:
Management:
- Ensures the proper condition and functioning of the nautical, navigational, decks, lifesaving and firefighting equipment, lines, and coating system on board of the Marine Craft in the Marine Department's care.
- Designs the maintenance schedule for the equipment, lines, and coating systems and ensures that this schedule is carried out properly by the crews of the Marine Craft.
- Ensures that the equipment under his supervision is properly and validly certified.
- Ensures compliance with and adherence to the ISM Procedures on board of certified Marine Craft in his care.
- Advises the Head of Section Marine Operations on issues with or possible improvements to the nautical and navigational equipment of Marine Craft in his care.
Maintenance & Repair:
- Ensures that the Nautical/Navigational equipment and lines of the marine craft assigned to him are kept at the desired level of maintenance.
- Identifies issues with maintenance and repair of nautical/navigational equipment and lines on board the assigned Marine Craft and advises the Head of Section Marine Operations accordingly.
- Maintenance & repair of Aids to Navigation.
Consultations & Contacts (non-Exhaustive):
External:
- Maintenance and repair engineers working on assigned vessels.
Internal:
- Fleet personnel, Sub-Section Technical Fleet Management.
Qualification, Experience, Skills & Knowledge:
Required:
- Experience as a Chief Officer aboard Sea-going vessels (>1 year).
- Education up to a College Degree level.
Preferred:
- Experience with planned maintenance systems.
- Experience with Port towage operations.
