Roles and responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver technical assignments, work elements, work packages, and project engineering design activities under supervision.
  • Conduct numerical analysis and prepare technical reports.
  • Utilize software to undertake engineering design.
  • Participate in site visits and design team meetings as required.

Desired candidate profile

1. Mechanical Engineering Knowledge

  • HVAC Systems: Expertise in heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems to ensure indoor comfort and air quality. This includes designing ductwork, selecting heating and cooling equipment, and managing airflow and energy efficiency.
  • Energy Management: Knowledge of energy-efficient systems, sustainable design, and renewable energy solutions to minimize energy consumption and reduce operational costs.
  • Fire Protection Systems: Understanding of fire suppression systems, including sprinklers, alarms, and emergency ventilation systems, to ensure building safety.

2. Electrical Engineering Knowledge

  • Electrical Distribution: Proficiency in designing electrical power distribution systems, including circuit breakers, transformers, panelboards, and emergency backup systems such as generators and UPS (uninterruptible power supply).
  • Lighting Design: Designing efficient lighting systems, including ambient, task, and accent lighting, and integrating controls for energy management (e.g., daylight sensors, dimmers).
  • Power Systems: Knowledge of high and low voltage systems, electrical load calculations, and distribution networks.
  • Fire Alarm and Security Systems: Designing and integrating fire alarm, security, and access control systems to ensure the safety and security of building occupants.

3. Plumbing Systems

  • Water Supply and Distribution: Designing systems for potable water supply, including piping, pumps, water heaters, and storage tanks.
  • Drainage and Waste Systems: Designing drainage, waste, and vent systems, ensuring proper flow and waste disposal in compliance with regulations.
  • Stormwater Management: Designing systems for managing rainwater runoff and integrating stormwater detention and treatment systems to protect the environment.
  • Gas Systems: Design and installation of natural gas or other fuel systems for heating, cooking, and other industrial processes.

4. Building Systems Integration

  • System Coordination: Collaborating with architects, civil engineers, structural engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure that MEP systems are properly integrated into the overall building design.
  • BIM (Building Information Modeling): Proficiency in BIM software (e.g., Revit) to design, model, and simulate the building's MEP systems and facilitate collaboration among project teams.
  • Sustainability: Designing MEP systems that support sustainable building practices, including energy-efficient systems, water conservation, and compliance with green building certifications like LEED.

5. Regulatory Compliance

  • Code Compliance: Knowledge of local, national, and international building codes, standards, and regulations for MEP systems, including safety, energy efficiency, and environmental standards (e.g., ASHRAE, NEC, NFPA).
  • Permitting: Understanding of the permitting process for MEP systems, including acquiring the necessary approvals from local authorities and ensuring systems comply with regulations.
