Job description

The MEP BIM Coordinator assists the BIM Manager as a project team member, interacting with project owners, architects, engineers, contractors, and subcontractors to develop and analyze the virtual construction process in order to maximize construction efficiency, job cost savings, as well as enhance project documentation & delivery.

General Responsibilities

  • Understand all BIM related documentations & guidelines.
  • Assist BIM Manager in preparing BIM Guidelines for project specific requirements.
  • Train project personnel in the use of BIM tools & technologies.
  • Create and maintain BIM models for project specific requirements.
  • Develop schematic and detailed level models including modeling MEP systems, structure, and architectural elements (as applicable).
  • Coordinate with BIM service providers and subcontractors.
  • Create new library components.
  • Assist with the development and maintenance of MEP content libraries.
  • Configure and administer common data environments (ACC Collaboration).
  • Act as Model Administrator for assigned projects.
  • Update as-built and revised Building Information Model.
  • Share & update models reflecting changes and RFI responses.
  • Develop the modeling schedule & prepare 4D simulations.
  • Define scopes of work, evaluate site problems, and issue RFIs.
  • Conduct site inspections and liaise with trade contractors.
  • Update and distribute documents and models to subcontractors and maintain control logs (as applicable).
  • Prepare and maintain submittal logs and expediting logs for BIM models.
  • Attend and/or manage model coordination meetings and document project preconstruction/BIM meetings (write minutes).
  • Coordinate models with internal and subcontractor detailers and modelers, recording coordination sign-offs.
  • Assist project team with construction coordination and scheduling.
  • Identify model constructability issues and propose solutions.

Desired Candidate Profile

Minimum Skills or Experience Requirements

  • A degree in Engineering with a mechanical background.
  • Minimum 5 years project experience, with duties as a lead coordinator engineer, or equivalent.
  • Autodesk Certified Professional.
  • Experience in the implementation of COBie.
  • Ability to read and understand plans, specifications, and BIM modeling.
  • Demonstrate an intermediate to advanced working knowledge and experience with Autodesk Revit and Navisworks.
  • Effective written and verbal English language communication skills.
  • Ability to use judgment, problem-solving ability, self-starting, and prioritization based on relevant factors.
  • Experience in BIM Automation like Python, Dynamo, and C# preferred.
  • Experience in IFC open building standards to facilitate interoperability and data exchange between different software applications.
  • Experience with Scan to BIM processes, which involve converting point cloud data from laser scans into accurate BIM models, is an added advantage.
  • Experience in working with Transco projects is preferred.
