To perform routine microbiology tests in a medical laboratory in accordance with professional and regulatory requirements and guidelines.

1. Perform routine microbiology tests according to professional standards and guidelines.
2. Coordinate the prioritising, sorting and testing of laboratory samples.
3. Perform Microbiology Cultures, microscopic, bacteriologic, PCR (respiratory, meningitis, gastroenterology), serological, urine analysis, and rapid tests for use in diagnosis and related treatment of patients.
4. Contribute to relevant quality improvement initiatives aimed at mitigating risks, compliance governance and increased patient safety.
5. Actively contribute and guide, where needed, relevant training and health and safety initiatives.
6. Operate, calibrate and monitor effective functioning of standard laboratory equipment that includes analysers and maintenance of temperature logs.

A relevant Bachelor's degree in medical laboratory sciences or a related field.

At least 3-5 years' full-time experience as a medical laboratory technologist in Microbiology.

• Correct maintenance of instrumentation according to manufacturer's guidelines.
• Developing standard operating procedures.
• Knowledgeable in Approved International Accreditation Standards or equivalent.
• Knowledgeable in laboratory equipment and testing to perform quality control checks and instrumentation troubleshooting.
• Laboratory information systems and reporting.
• Laboratory terminologies as applied in the specific and related area of specialisation.
