Mechanical Engineer

Job Purpose

Perform operations, maintenance, and troubleshooting of various mechanical systems, including pumps, generators, turbines, plumbing, and infrastructure networks (such as storm water and sewage systems). Manage a team of technicians, provide technical guidance, and ensure the implementation of industry best practices to optimize system performance. The role involves diagnosing issues, recommending and executing effective solutions, and overseeing the maintenance of mechanical systems.

Key Responsibilities

• Organize and prepare preventive maintenance activities of mechanical equipment and systems, including generators, pumps and turbines etc.
• Plan and execute repair of mechanical systems, ensuring minimal downtime and optimal operational efficiency.
• Prepare requisitions for materials, parts, and components required for mechanical maintenance and repair tasks.
• Diagnose and repair faults in mechanical systems within the facility, including pumps, valves, piping systems, and other essential mechanical infrastructure.
• Oversee the cleaning and maintenance of water tanks, ensuring compliance with health and safety standards and ensuring water quality is maintained.
• Perform regular water chemical analysis to monitor water quality, and implement corrective actions in line with water treatment requirements to maintain compliance with statutory regulations.
• Ensure compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements related to mechanical systems, including water treatment and chemical handling, adhering to health, safety, and environmental standards.
• Ensure 100% uptime for critical mechanical systems, implementing proactive maintenance and monitoring to prevent system failures.
• Conduct routine testing and inspections of mechanical systems to assess their condition, recommending and implementing corrective actions to maintain operational performance.
• Design, install, and commission small-scale mechanical projects, such as pump installations, piping networks, and air handling units, ensuring compliance with relevant standards and regulations.
• Conduct risk assessments and implement preventative measures.
• Develop and follow standard operating procedures for Mechanical system maintenance.
• Generate and assign work orders through the MAXIMO system, ensuring accurate input of maintenance and repair details into the system.
• Coordinate and manage the attendance of internal team members, while overseeing the performance and compliance of subcontractors working on mechanical systems on-site.
• Ensure compliance with safe work practices for electrical systems, including the preparation of switching plans and Permit to Work (PTW) documentation.
• Utilize specialized testing equipment, such as ultrasonic flow meters and vibration analysis tools, to monitor system performance and detect potential issues.
• Adhere to a shift work schedule, including day and night shifts, to ensure continuous operational support.
• Guarantee that all work is executed in strict alignment with company procedures and policies, health and safety standards, control of hazardous materials, COSHH regulations, and the appropriate use of personal protective equipment (PPE).

Qualifications, Experiences, & Skills

• Hands-on experience in maintaining and troubleshooting diesel generators, pumps and turbines.
• Minimum of 5 years in Mechanical maintenance or a similar role.
• Proficient in diagnosing mechanical and electrical issues in pumps and generators.
• Relevant certifications in generator maintenance or mechanical systems (OEM trainings).
• Strong understanding of safety regulations and maintenance standards.
• Ability to identify and resolve mechanical and operational issues efficiently.
• Capability to perform physically demanding tasks in challenging environments.
• Effective verbal and written communication for reporting and team coordination.
• Ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams for power system reliability.
• Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and emergencies.
• Strong focus on precision to ensure equipment operates efficiently and safely.
