Mechanical Draftsman
Job description
Key Responsibilities:
Drafting and Design:
- Prepare detailed mechanical drawings for construction projects including layouts for HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, and other mechanical systems.
- Ensure that designs are in compliance with building codes, regulations, and industry best practices.
- Revise and update drawings based on project changes and client feedback.
Collaboration:
- Coordinate with engineers and project managers to understand project requirements and translate them into precise drawings.
- Communicate with construction teams to ensure that mechanical systems are correctly installed according to the specifications.
3D Modeling and BIM:
- Utilize CAD and BIM software (AutoCAD, Revit, etc.) to create 3D models and coordinate mechanical systems within the overall building design.
- Assist in clash detection and resolving design conflicts in coordination with other disciplines (architectural, structural, electrical).
Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain accurate records of design revisions, project drawings, and technical documentation.
- Generate reports and deliverables as required by the project team or client.
Site Visits:
- Occasionally visit construction sites to verify mechanical installations, ensure compliance with drawings, and address onsite challenges.
Quality Assurance:
- Review mechanical systems and drawings for accuracy, ensuring compliance with project specifications, safety standards, and regulatory requirements.
Requirements
Education:
- Diploma or Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Drafting Technology, or a related field.
- Certification in CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit, SolidWorks) is a plus.
Experience:
- Minimum 5 years of experience as a Mechanical Draftsman, preferably in the construction or engineering industry.
- Proven experience in drafting mechanical systems including HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems.
Skills:
- Proficient in AutoCAD, Revit, and other drafting software.
- Strong knowledge of building codes, mechanical systems design, and construction processes.
- Familiarity with BIM and 3D modeling software.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in drafting and design.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment and independently when required.
Additional Requirements:
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and specifications.
- Basic knowledge of mechanical systems and their installation in construction projects.
- Willingness to travel to construction sites as required.
