Job description

At Imperium Group, we are known for our expertise in designing functional and aesthetic interior spaces that cater to the needs and preferences of our clients. We are currently looking for an experienced Material Engineer - Interior Design to join our team in Dubai. This is a key role that will focus on selecting, testing, and evaluating materials used in interior design projects to ensure quality, performance, and aesthetic appeal.

Position Overview:

The Material Engineer - Interior Design will be responsible for researching, selecting, and evaluating the materials used in interior design projects. This position requires deep knowledge of various materials (e.g., fabrics, finishes, flooring, wall coverings, lighting, etc.) and their application in the context of interior spaces. The ideal candidate will also have expertise in sustainable materials and be able to recommend environmentally friendly options while ensuring the performance and aesthetic qualities of the design are maintained.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Research, evaluate, and select materials for interior design projects, considering performance, durability, cost, and sustainability.
  2. Work closely with interior designers, architects, and contractors to ensure the materials chosen meet the design intent, client preferences, and technical requirements.
  3. Develop material specifications and ensure all materials comply with local codes, industry standards, and project requirements.
  4. Conduct tests on materials to assess their durability, performance, and compliance with safety regulations.
  5. Stay up-to-date with the latest trends in interior materials, finishes, and sustainable design practices.
  6. Source and manage relationships with material suppliers and manufacturers.
  7. Prepare technical reports, samples, and presentations to support material choices.
  8. Assist in budgeting and cost estimation for materials and finishes.
  9. Monitor the quality of materials during the construction or installation phase to ensure they meet the required standards.
  10. Provide recommendations on material alternatives to meet project timelines, budgets, or other constraints.
  11. Ensure that materials are delivered on time and within budget, coordinating with suppliers and contractors as needed.

Requirements:

  1. Bachelor's degree in Material Science, Interior Design, Architecture, or a related field.
  2. Proven experience (3+ years) as a Material Engineer or in a similar role within the interior design or architecture sector.
  3. Strong knowledge of interior materials (e.g., wood, stone, metal, fabrics, paints, finishes, flooring, etc.) and their applications in interior design.
  4. Understanding of the technical properties of materials and their suitability for various environments.
  5. Knowledge of sustainable and eco-friendly materials and design solutions.
  6. Experience with CAD software (AutoCAD, Revit, or similar) to understand technical drawings and specifications.
  7. Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with designers, architects, and clients.
  8. Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  9. Ability to conduct material testing and analysis to ensure quality standards are met.
  10. Familiarity with industry standards, building codes, and regulations related to materials in interior design projects.
