Role Description
The Maintenance Engineer will play a critical role in ensuring the operational reliability of all machinery and equipment used in a high-precision manufacturing environment. This role involves developing and implementing preventive maintenance programs, troubleshooting and repairing advanced automated equipment such as CNC machines and PLC systems, and overseeing maintenance activities across the site. The ideal candidate will have experience in industries such as optics manufacturing, precision engineering, semiconductor, or medical device manufacturing, where equipment precision and uptime are paramount. The Maintenance Engineer will lead a team of maintenance technicians, manage maintenance budgets, coordinate with vendors, and support equipment installations and upgrades. Safety, quality standards, and minimizing downtime are key priorities for this role.
Key Responsibilities:
- Preventive Maintenance: Design, implement, and manage preventive maintenance schedules for all machinery to reduce downtime and maintain high operational reliability, specifically focusing on high-precision equipment like CNC machines, PLCs, and coating systems.
- Troubleshooting & Repair: Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems. Special emphasis is placed on resolving issues with automated production equipment (e.g., CNC machines, PLCs) that are essential for precision operations.
- Equipment Monitoring & Management: Conduct regular inspections and performance monitoring of critical equipment, ensuring machinery operates efficiently and meets quality and precision standards.
- Team Leadership & Development: Lead, mentor, and provide ongoing training to a team of maintenance technicians, focusing on optical manufacturing equipment or similar precision manufacturing environments.
- Safety Compliance: Ensure all maintenance activities adhere to health, safety, and environmental regulations, and promote a culture of safety within the maintenance team.
- Vendor & Inventory Management: Maintain a detailed inventory of critical spare parts and coordinate with external vendors and suppliers for equipment repairs, part procurement, and maintenance contracts, especially for high-precision machinery.
- Project Involvement: Actively participate in the installation and upgrading of new machinery or systems, providing technical expertise and ensuring the equipment meets the high precision standards of industries like optical manufacturing and semiconductor production.
- Documentation & Continuous Improvement: Maintain accurate records of all maintenance activities, including preventive maintenance, repairs, and modifications. Support continuous improvement initiatives by tracking performance metrics and identifying areas for improvement.
Qualifications:
Education:
Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
Experience:
- Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Maintenance Engineer in industries like optics manufacturing, precision engineering, medical device manufacturing, or semiconductor production, where the maintenance of highly specialized and automated equipment is required.
Skills and Competencies:
- Technical Expertise: Proven experience in troubleshooting and maintaining PLCs, CNC machines, and other automated systems.
- Preventive Maintenance: Strong ability to develop and implement preventive maintenance programs tailored to precision equipment.
- Leadership: Demonstrated experience managing and leading maintenance teams.
- Safety & Quality Focus: Strong understanding of safety regulations and quality standards specific to precision manufacturing environments.
- Problem Solving: Ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues and identify long-term solutions that improve equipment reliability.
- Software Proficiency: Familiarity with CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management Software) and standard office software (e.g., MS Office).
License / Certifications:
- Certified Maintenance and Reliability Professional (CMRP) - Plus
- Certified Maintenance Manager (CMM) - Plus
- Six Sigma Certification (Green Belt, Black Belt) - Plus
- Reliability-Centered Maintenance (RCM) - Plus

- Equipment Uptime: Target: 95% or higher (Importance: Ensures operational continuity and efficiency)
- Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF): Target: Longer intervals between failures (Importance: Indicates equipment reliability and effective maintenance)
- Mean Time to Repair (MTTR): Target: Shorter repair times (Importance: Measures efficiency in restoring equipment to operational status)
- Preventive Maintenance Compliance: Target: 95% or higher (Importance: Ensures regular maintenance to prevent failures)
- Maintenance Costs: Target: Within or under budget (Importance: Evaluates cost-effectiveness and budget management)
- Safety Incident Rate: Target: Low or zero incidents (Importance: Measures adherence to safety protocols)
- Work Order Completion Rate: Target: 90% or higher (Importance: Assesses the efficiency and timeliness of maintenance operations)
- Team Productivity: Target: High productivity with minimal overtime (Importance: Evaluates effective team management)
