Job description

Roles and Responsibilities

As a Lifeguard, you will be responsible for the overall safety of guests across various locations of the resort, keeping pool areas clean, answering guest questions, and enforcing policies, rules, and regulations of recreation locations. The right candidate will enjoy interacting with guests and solving issues as they arise while having fun in the sun!

You will be working 5/6 days per week over 48 hours and will be rotated over different areas across the resort - from the resort pools, Aquaventure Waterpark to designated beach areas. As a Lifeguard, you will provide instructions to riders and swimmers, dispatch guests from rides, and always enforce safety regulations. You must be able to stand for long periods of time, tolerate very hot conditions, and be physically fit.

You will have the opportunity to attend a minimum of four hours of safety training per month to remain a highly competent Lifeguard and further develop your skills, being coached and developed by your seniors.

About You

Previous Lifeguarding or Swimming Instructor experience is preferred but not essential as long as you have the ability to swim 200 meters continuously, tread water, and the physical ability to perform work that will involve lifting guests. You must have strong observational skills to proactively identify guest needs and ensure safety guidelines are being followed, along with strong verbal communication skills.

Desired Candidate Profile

  • Monitoring and Surveillance:

    • Constant Vigilance: Lifeguards are required to observe swimmers at all times to ensure they are safe. This includes scanning the water and surrounding areas for any potential hazards or signs of distress.
    • Crowd Control: In high-traffic areas, lifeguards may help manage crowd flow and ensure that swimmers follow safety protocols, like not overcrowding certain areas of the pool.
  • Emergency Response and Rescue:

    • Rescue Operations: Lifeguards must be prepared to respond to water emergencies, including rescuing swimmers who are struggling, unconscious, or drowning. This involves using rescue equipment such as flotation devices or reaching poles.
    • First Aid and CPR: If an emergency occurs, lifeguards must be able to administer first aid, CPR, or basic life-saving techniques until emergency medical services arrive, if necessary.
  • Enforcing Safety Rules:

    • Pool or Beach Rules: Lifeguards are responsible for ensuring that all swimmers follow the rules of the pool or beach. This may include enforcing regulations regarding diving, swimming in designated areas, and other safety guidelines.
    • Preventive Measures: Lifeguards should take steps to prevent accidents, such as ensuring pool areas are free of debris, monitoring the condition of the water, and encouraging safe behavior.
  • Providing Assistance:

    • Helping Swimmers: Lifeguards assist swimmers who may need help with swimming techniques or navigating the water, particularly in unfamiliar or deep areas.
    • Offering Support: They may also provide guidance and safety tips to swimmers, such as teaching them how to swim or recommending safety measures like wearing life vests.
  • Record Keeping and Reporting:

    • Accident Reports: If an incident or injury occurs, lifeguards are responsible for documenting the details of the event and reporting it to the appropriate authorities or supervisors.
    • Maintenance of Equipment: Lifeguards ensure that all rescue equipment (e.g., flotation devices, rescue boards, first-aid kits) is in good condition and available for use.
  • Maintaining Cleanliness and Safety:

    • Facility Inspections: Lifeguards may help inspect the pool or beach area to ensure that it is clean and free of hazards. They may also check that safety equipment is in place and functioning properly.
    • Supervising Pool Operations: In some cases, lifeguards help manage pool schedules, including opening and closing times, water quality checks, and ensuring the facilities are safe for use.
  • Training and Drills:

    • Regular Training: Lifeguards must continuously train to stay current with rescue techniques, CPR, and first aid. Some organizations require periodic re-certification.
    • Participating in Drills: Lifeguards engage in regular drills to practice their response to emergencies and ensure they are prepared to handle real-life situations.
