Job Title: Legislation and Government Affairs Legal Researcher

Role purpose:
Conduct in-depth research and analysis into various aspects of legislation and government affairs laws and prepare data, articles, documents, cases and more for the DCT Legislation and Government Affairs Legal counsel.

Key responsibilities:

1. Conduct rapid and comprehensive research on laws, rulings and regulations relating to DCT to ensure that the legal position of DCT is protected.
2. Prepare briefs and preliminary drafts of legislative legal material pertaining to the DCT portfolio.
3. Summarize collected information into an acceptable report format and share results with Senior Legal Counsel.
4. Investigate facts and the applicable laws and jurisprudence that may influence the DCT's Legal Counsel process to frame their respective arguments for trial and to determine the causes of actions in preparation for the trial.
5. Draft and prepare pleadings and other legal documents such as petitions, motions, complaints, appeals, affidavits, and letters.
6. Track down cases in various legal databases, including federal and state case law databases and law databases related to Legislation and Government Affairs.
7. Research topics such as constitutional rights, criminal procedure, tort law and administrative law.
8. Support in the development of cases by maintaining contact with people involved in the case, scheduling depositions, preparing and forwarding summonses and subpoenas, drafting complaints, preparing and filing discovery requests, and preparing responses to opposing counsel.
9. Support case preparation by preparing case summaries and materials for mediation conferences, preparing pleadings, monitoring and obtaining discovery responses, and organizing materials for team case review.

1. Carry out any other duties and responsibilities related to the role at the request of the direct manager.

Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree (Master Preferred) in Law or any other degree within relevant industry.
• Professional certification in Law is preferred.

Experience:
• 1 to 3 years of experience in Legal Research or any other experience within a similar role or industry.

Skills:

1. Full professional English proficiency both in speaking and writing.
2. Arabic bilingual desirable but not mandatory.
3. Skilled in MS Office (PowerPoint, Word and Excel).
4. High level of competency in relevant software applications.
5. Self-motivated with a proven ability to complete work in a timely manner.
6. Ability to quickly integrate with existing business software tools and knowledge of other relevant industry software.
7. Excellent written and verbal communication skills - including appropriate stakeholder alignment.
8. Evidence of creating, implementing, and managing policies and procedures.
9. Ability to multi-task and prioritize work effectively.
10. Ability to work under own direction and high degree of initiative.
11. Knowledge of the principles, practices and techniques of legal research.
