Job description

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Provide effective, reliable and user-friendly support, advice and assistance to senior managers within DP World on legal matters affecting any aspect of DP World’s business, acting under the instructions and directions of Senior Legal Counsel and VP Corporate Legal & General Counsel.
  2. Review, draft and negotiate a broad range of legal documents relevant to the assigned business unit (including consultancy agreements, services agreements, lease agreements, MOUs, NDAs) ensuring that legal requirements are met within such documents.
  3. Provide reliable, commercially focused advice in an efficient and effective manner.
  4. Identify and analyze legal issues arising in transactions and new projects. Make clear and commercially focused recommendations in respect of such issues after review by Senior Legal Counsel.
  5. Analyze material legal queries and provide legal opinion.
  6. Provide effective reporting to the Senior Legal Counsel.
  7. Liaise with external counsel as required and streamline communications between other departments/business units and external lawyers to ensure cost efficiency. Provide external legal counsel with clear and explicit instructions. Oversee and review work carried out by external legal counsel.
  8. File and maintain legal records of all the legal documentation for future reference.
  9. Promote and demonstrate positive behaviors in harmony with DP World’s values and culture.
  10. Perform other related duties as assigned by the direct line manager and head of department.

  • Legislation Compliance:
    • Adherence to Laws: Ensures all local and applicable international laws, agreements and regulations are followed and are reflected in the agreements.
  • Legal - Knowledge of Legal and Regulatory Requirements:
    • Understanding of legal and regulatory requirements: Keeps current on laws, controls and regulatory requirements framework and structure related to the core functions of DP World and its affiliates.
    • Adherence to legal and regulatory requirements: Adheres to legal and regulatory requirements (e.g., reporting mandates, compliance requirements).
    • Internal and external control environments: Establishes the value of preferred alternatives by relating them to the other party's needs and exposing problems with undesirable alternatives; envisions and verbalizes potential solutions to areas of disagreement.

Legal - Negotiation and Influence:

  • Persuasion Skills: Moves others toward a position, with or without authority, by communicating expertise and providing a compelling rationale.
  • Legal - Drafting and Review:
    • Knowledge of Legal Terminology: Accurately uses legal terminology while drafting and reviewing legal documentation.
    • Preparing Legal Documents: Independently prepares legal documentation in a clear, accurate and timely manner, to support a proposed business case. Properly prepares legal forms, ensuring formatting compliance of legal documents.
    • Reviewing Legal Documents: Reviews a wide range of simple legal documents, clearly and accurately, identifies areas of potential risk or non-compliance and provides edits/comments with their rationale.

General Accountability:

  • Act as an ambassador for DP World at all times when working; promoting and demonstrating positive behaviors in harmony with DP World’s principles, values and culture; ensuring the highest level of safety is applied in all activities; understanding and following DP World’s Code of Conduct and Ethics policies.
  • Ensure to eliminate/reduce the chance or risks of any type of incident/injury/fatality and damage to DPW/customer property and environment by guiding operations team and third party staff to follow HSE rules and regulations, report incidents and non-conformances and take immediate corrective actions.
  • Ensure commitments and compliance to Information Security Policies in terms of implementation and monitoring of Information Security Management system in your department in line with the Information Security Regulation (ISR) policy.

Qualifications:

Essential Qualification: Bachelor’s Degree in Law from an accredited university in the UK, USA, Australia or New Zealand or other English-speaking nation plus License to practice law.

Desirable Qualification: Arabic Speaker and working experience in the Middle East.

Work Experience: 2-5 years’ post qualification experience working in the region, with previous experience working as an in-house Lawyer in Real Estate.

Technical skills required to perform the role: Excellent written and oral communication skills; excellent drafting skills, legal experience in corporate and commercial transactions; commercial awareness and understanding of business needs.

Languages: Fluent English & Arabic.
